Ouch, big loss for us if Eberle does leave.
Maybe get Vallerand back though?

I like Eberle and would be very pleased if he came back. His abrasive style of game together with being able to chip in regularly in the goals department would certainly be a big miss.
However, I've mentioned in other posts that from my point of view, I only want to see players than WANT to be here and the Steelers are very much a priority choice for them. Eberle has said in the past that he came back as other options he was looking at didn't work out. That didn't sound like the Steelers were up there in his choices.
I can't fault any player for trying to get a better job, but the Steelers should be selective on players who will come back just because the other options didn't work out. To win trophies we need 110% committed players IMO.

Although I agree with you to extent, those who play in the EIHL wont be on huge wages.smbmetal wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 12:38 pmI like Eberle and would be very pleased if he came back. I can't blame Eberle if another club or clubs came in & offered him (for example) another £200 a week, over a month that's £800.
Hockey is such a small career that they have to go where the pennies are at any given point in their career, unlike footballers (to a certain level again) they will have to go on & carry on working day jobs until they can retire, the likes of Bale etc could retire at 30 & be fine for the rest of their lives.
And yet Eberle is always on of the hardest working players on the ice.smbmetal wrote: ↑Tue May 10, 2022 12:38 pmI like Eberle and would be very pleased if he came back. His abrasive style of game together with being able to chip in regularly in the goals department would certainly be a big miss.

I think you need to readjust your expectations a bit. Whilst there will be some players that come to Sheffield and enjoy it as much as anywhere else they've played, you're always going to need some players who are only here for a year or two and are here just because Steelers have offered them reasonable money or a decent package.
I can't imagine there are too many Canadians growing up dreaming of playing for Steelers and most of them will only have heard of the team a few months before they come, don't you think?
As long as they are playing to the best of their abilities, I don't think it matters whether they tried to sign somewhere else first because it's unavoidable.

Says has "team news" which I find interesting rather than signing news. Maybe one out Monday (Vally) then signing news Wednesday?

I’ve got a gut feeling we won’t be seeing Vally back in orange. I hope I am so wrong and that I’m left eating my words.
