Sheffield Steelers rally round Anthony DeLuca despite drug suspension

Club owner Tony Smith says the organisation retains the Canadian's registration through the international transfer card system while he plays for Trois-Rivières Lions in Quebec.
We sent Anthony home to keep playing, he is playing in the Coast (ECHL) at the moment. We will continue to review the situation. It is ever-changing" said Smith.
The owner said coach Aaron Fox continues to look for injury cover personnel.
In a few months' time if the situation changes that will be a call for Aaron. Anthony is not barred from the club. That's not the case, at all.

If he did come back and had the good sense to issue a full statement including an apology to his team and the fans for not being available for selection etc then I see no reason once he served his suspension time why the fans would not welcome him back, mistakes were made and people deserve a second chance to put right those mistakes.
I was initially hard on him further back in this topic and I reserve to right to alter my opinion based on more facts being available and maybe the cooling off period. It doesnt mean its acceptable behavior in any way, but the article is right, he doesn't deserve to be thrown to the wolves either...

I agree, i'd like to see him back, and would guess quite a few steelers fans would also, but you can just see fans from other clubs will be lining up to snipe at Tony Smith and the Steelers if it happens.

Reading through this article it’s a duty of care statement on behalf of Tony and the club. I honestly believe we won’t see Deluca back here again, the negative publicity from other teams fans alone would be enough to pour water on any way back for him.

I dont believe we will see him back either to be honest, I was just making an observation, that if it was under the correct circumstances I wouldn't hold a grudge or actively discourage it...House_of_Steel wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 11:12 amReading through this article it’s a duty of care statement on behalf of Tony and the club. He’s an innocent man until proven otherwise, if the investigation leads to a UKAD ban then he’ll be ineligible to play in the UK anyway.
But I wouldn’t be against a return after any ban if the coach thinks it’s best for our team, Tyler Mosienko was a proven match-fixer but also a proven match-winner in our division.

DeLuca (who’s ITC we still hold) has signed for the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL in a trade deal.
