Not seen the game, but a potential banana skin avoided.
Having 2 weeks off and probably not much training, a slow start was inevitable I think and a win will do nicely.
Listening to Fox’s post game comments Eberle got injured? Hope it’s only short term.

WE were pants all night, no mistake, but we found a way to win and to me thats celebration enough, when you can win dirty when clearly your not playing well, then to me thats the signs of a good team...
Ok we dont want that week in week out, but no one remembers those games weeks from now, they just see the W in the win/lose column..
there was no lack of effort tonight either, they all just look like they had lead in their legs.. FInd a way to win, whatever the issue and the fans will stick with it..

We were definitely poor tonight & Guilford deserved at least a point from that game. But we were back from COVID in camp and from experience that could be relatively no symptoms to ongoing debilitating symptoms, so we found a way to win under those circumstances. I don’t want to watch games like that week in week out & play like that against the bigger teams & we will be on the losing end. Draw a line under it & onwards & upwards.

Only results matter, performances don’t. Of course there is a link between strong performance and good results but we’ve played better than that this season and lost.

The Win is of course always the important part.Jayboy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 7:42 pmWE were pants all night, no mistake, but we found a way to win and to me thats celebration enough, when you can win dirty when clearly your not playing well, then to me thats the signs of a good team...

However, whilst no one remembers poor wins, I remember poor games against certain teams. So much so if performances were as regularly poor but we were still winning attendances would still drop, apart from the games against the bigger clubs.
For example, I won't watch games against, Dundee, Fife, Guildford and Glasgow. Why? - Because 9 times out of 10 I find them difficult to watch with very little skill or entertainment. We're likely to win more than we lose (at home) against sides like these, but that's not enough for me to buy a ticket.

But you bud are in the minority amongst our fans and are probably on balance an exception to the rule...smbmetal wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 12:43 pmThe Win is of course always the important part.Jayboy wrote: ↑Sun Jan 09, 2022 7:42 pmWE were pants all night, no mistake, but we found a way to win and to me thats celebration enough, when you can win dirty when clearly your not playing well, then to me thats the signs of a good team...

Certainly amongst season ticket holders who have paid upfront so, have already made the commitment to watch all home games they have paid for whoever they are against..
The rest of the fan base are no doubt effected by who we play, but I dont think as much as you may think, poor performance is more likely to affect the attendance, but I stand by my point of 'win the game' and most of the time we look forward as a fan base, not backwards...

I think you're right there Jay I am very much in the minority.
However, I do maintain that if games became so dire even with regular winning, attendances would drop.
However, Fox's style of play keep the majority happy and attendances increasing which of course helps by the regular winning and in the main decent performances.
Fox has done a good job with the team and my do not watch games are not all to do with our style of play as we can only play the team(s) in front of us.
I just yearn after better quality hockey in the EIHL. After all we've never paid as much for a ticket as we do now.

I well remember our first season in a lower league. We were winning every game by 8 or more. It was amusing for a while but soon started to pall. I’m not sure the standard of the league is as important as the closeness of the standards of the teams in it.
One more point. I watch a lot of my favourite teams on NHL on premier sports. Those games are better not just because the standard is higher but because the stripeys do not feel the need to hand out penalties for the slightest misdemeanour. Our lot really do overplay their hand to the point that you yearn for five on five. Last night against Guildford there were a number of totally unnecessary penalties. Let them play for goodness sake.

The last period was like penalty tennis, when one finished for one team another one started for the other team and so on... And I gree some of the calls were rather tame 'Look at me' type calls..Bryan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 4:45 pmI well remember our first season in a lower league. Agree 100% with you re officials, I had a ST for 2 years back along & the amount of times they blew up was unbelievably frustrating.Bryan wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 4:45 pmI well remember our first season in a lower league.
