Overall a poor period. Maybe it’s a fitness problem because they don’t look like the team that played the first period. Our PK seemed as good as we are used to but the one PP looked as if more work is needed. Not surprising. It will be interesting to see how much progress they make next week.
Hugely underwhelming first 2 periods.
I'm generally positive in my outlook with the Steelers, though 1 serious chance in 40 mins of hockey makes it difficult today.
Yes preseason etc, but this is falling way short of expectations so far.

Difficult to know what to make of that, because of the different timelines in preparation.
I thought we were fine in the 1st and overall it was a fairly even period.
The 2nd started poorly with Cardiff pushing from the off and eventually breaking us. I still don't get the idea behind putting Balmas LW, on that first shift in the 2nd his line looked lost.
The only positives for me are:
- The 1st we matched them
- At 3 - 0 it could have got embarrassing
- I thought we did OK at faceoffs
Cardiff looked like what they are, a much better prepared team, but I did worry about how many battles we lost on the boards.

A sensible level of opponent for preseason , not cannon fodder that you can score double figures against nor a team who is so far ahead you rarely see the puck. Against a club that is already a couple of weeks and a couple of games ahead there's enough to believe we will be competitive. Anyone who either writes the season off or thinks we will win a grand slam on the back of these games is being foolish. These are practice games, nothing more.
