No silverware to me is a bad season for a club like steelers,,,,, its a league with only 10 teams in to start with and realistically only half of them stand a decent chance,,, we all have a good idea before season starts which are likely to be top 4/5 teams. We have biggest crowds so would imagine one of the biggest budgets and maybe better training facilities etc,,, so all ingredients are there. so its then down to the coaches recruitment and game tactics and to get best out of his assembled team.. all teams have injuries / and things to deal with, so to me the buck stops at the coach,,, especially over a period of several seasons as opposed to an odd season thats not been the best,,,, here is to a good season hopefully

It's our annual Wetherspoons pub crawl today where we spend hours discussing hockey, looking at stats and then making our pre season predictions from 10 to 1.

It will be interesting to see how confident my mates are of success this season.

My goals prediction has Sheffield and Nottingham within one of each other, Cardiff a few behind and Belfast 20 ahead of the chasing pack.

For Nottingham I've plugged in 3 rumoured players. That leaves them with 5 players who I've got down for more than 20 goals (I've got us with only one).

Assume Balmas is the one, but surprised at no Juusola? He's hit 20+ in 2 of last 3 league seasons.

I have Gettinger likely to get very close to the 20 mark with Teissala with definite potential to get there but harder to call given bulk of his stats are from Liiga.

Interestingly I went back and had a look at the GS team and how they looked if I was to predict stats as if it was the team signed to go in to the new season. I'd probably have had 2/3 as highly likely for 20+ and a couple of unknowns - not dissimilar to how I look at the team we have now. Would be interesting to see how your calcs would look for that team in comparison

My GS stats are long gone, but my mate has dug his out and we're usually quite close.

He had predicted the following players over 20 in the GS seaon:

Balmas
Watling
Juusola
Allen
Ciampini
Neumann

I suspect i would have been similar, apart from Ciampini.

This season I've got Balmas well over 20, Gettinger on 20 and Juusola just under.

If we're going to win the league, the likes of Teissala and Gettinger are going to have to make my prediction look stupid.....let's hope so.

Haha.

My top 5 were:

1. Belfast - No surprise I guess.

2. Nottingham - I think they could have similar firepower to Belfast in their imports, but they don't have a Conway. Nottingham could change though, because they still have 3 imports to sign.

3. Sheffield - I'm not convinced by the netmining tandem, too many key forwards on the downward slope and a lack of snipers all concerns me. A good Brit core though and I quite like our d.

4. Cardiff - I actually prefer their defence to Belfast's, but I think they're going to lack depth in scoring.

5. Guildford- They look the best of the rest.

All a bit of fun and meaningless at this stage though, because until they all hit the ice, it's all just guesswork based on Elite Prospects etc.

Obviously team chemistry and coaching will play a big part.

With the new ticket prices I'm also expecting the FA Cup and the World Snooker Championship 😁
