Steelers signings and departures

I can understand the Steelers spacing out the signing announcements to keep them in the media spotlight over a period of time but the tease of "I know something you don't" seems a bit childish, just announce them on whatever day you choose. Talking of childish... Can we get an adult from The Star and one from The Steelers in a room and sort out this problem between the two organisations please, while I fully understand not wanting Bob W being to be involved after what has happened there is nothing stopping The Star from reporting on one of the major sporting teams in their coverage area, even if that's just repackaging the club's media output, which is all they did the majority of the time anyway. The Star is losing views/clicks/sales and the club is losing a media presence outside of their own captive audience. This is making both sides look like a couple of mardy teenagers.

Literally makes no odds to any of us how and when they announce signings though does it? I don't care if we don't find out until they walk out onto the ice on at the first game, it makes no tangible difference to any of us. Once the contract is inked they need to find a timeslot when Pete Spencer is free to do the customary interview with both Foxy AND the new signing, before announcing right? All of who might be on different time zones, on holiday, or otherwise unavailable. So let's all stop moaning about the timing of signing announcements. And to that end the club is not required to cater for all of our individual social media and offseason needs/wants. Don't like it? Unfollow.

To be fair, copy-pasting the club's press releases inside a set of quotes marks, or transcribed dialogue verbatim from Pete Spencers' interviews was all Bob W did most of the time for his final few years anyway.

Keeping us in the dark seems to be a hobby with the Steelers Media. Yes you could wait until all the interviews are lined up etc but then why do they need to tell us in advance anyway. Just say nothing til you are ready.
We get treated like kids similarly at the arena. “ Don't leave early tonight we have a worldchanging announcement “. Then it turns out something like the Zamboni driver has cleaned the ice 500 times .
Strange that when news is not good , for example , players suddenly leaving , then they do stay silent.

Apparently Fox has signed another player but we are not allowed to know who it is until Monday. More silly games! It all seems rather childish.

Back to this again, its just nonsense. Stop drip feeding people and just announce it on the day its supposed to happen because most of the time its just a disappointment anyway.

I can't say I'm too fussed if they advise us signing news is coming in advance or if they just announce it out of the blue.

What I don't like is being told team news is coming and then it turns out to be about a player we knew had left (ie. Tansey). I must have checked the website numerous times that morning, thinking we'd signed a new player, only to find out it was about where an ex player was going.....I found that quite annoying.

No problem with telling us about Tansey, but that should have been an announcement out of the blue with no build up.....that was poor by the organisation and left a lot of people disappointed.

Slovakia is often, how shall we put it, interesting in terms of how teams operate. A lot of imports move mid season out of and around that league. Player experiences are very mixed, so I don't usually take too much stock when that's where they've been playing.

Heard his name very early in the summer but thought it was incorrect given he hadn't been announced earlier. Happy to see that's not the case. CV reminds me of Watling's before he signed. He's also apparently good mates with Diffley and played with Archambault as well.

I can't say I'm particularly excited.

Another player joining us after a drop off in his stats and a relatively poor season.

1 point in 15 playoff games in Sweden and the worst +/- on the team.

One of the worst +/- on his Slovakian team as well, although his points scoring ratio/game in Slovakia last season was decent.

The two years prior to last season he was near the top of the +/- on his teams and put up decent points, so i guess that's a positive....but why the decline?

My biggest two concerns are:

1. We keep signing guys who seem to be coming to the tail end of their careers with declining stats, whereas Belfast, who are the benchmark, keep picking them up near to their peak. Is it a budget issue and/or recruitment choice?

2. Where are the goals? Neither Teissala or Rockwood have ever hit double figures in their professional careers. We can't really count on the likes of Dowd, Collins, Archambault, Tait or Jasper to bang in near 20 goals or more.

We look like we have plenty of creativity in the squad, but only really Balmas and possibly Juusola to finish it off.

I hope I'm wrong, but to me this feels like a 3rd to 5th place squad.

Good quality Brits, decent depth and a reasonably solid looking defence, but quite short on goals and lacking the quality of Belfast.

I've not seen or heard any mention of what he's like at faceoffs, which was an issue for us last season.

Collins has been described as a strong faceoff winner, but no mention of this with regards to Rockwood.

My concern is how come we cant ever seem to recruit from North America and mainly get guys from Europe who are not exactly spring chickens, as Doom says compared to Belfasr who seem to get lads at their prime? Is that down to his brother in the big league fo we think?

As for today's signing let's hope he's decent but I still dont get that anyone seems to think this was an omg signing look who we just landed.
He says he's looking forward to setting up other players, dontvwe need a player that can actually score and not just leave it all to Balmas?
