I nearly added Thommo as my 5th.
Easy to forget the good stuff and focus on the end of his reign.
If he wasn't Simms buddy would that he meant he was viewed slightly differently by some?

To be perfectly honest I couldn't give a rats ass who he was best mates with, our coach could be best mates with Donald Trump and piers Morgan and up for business man of the year for all I care.. I just need them to be good at coaching an ice hockey team to winning hockey games..

Mike Blaisdell was and still is one of Simms' buddy's......he's not doing too bad so far in the vote is he?fortescuejohnp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 11:23 pmI nearly added Thommo as my 5th.

Thommo hasn't got many votes as the hockey produced by him is some of the worst in our history IMO.

While I'd never vote Thommo in my top 5 , and that's based on results first , then playing style etc , the fact that he's mates with Simms just isn't a factor, Blaiser is also a mate of Simms but he's my number 1 pick every day of the week.fortescuejohnp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 26, 2020 11:23 pmI nearly added Thommo as my 5th.

Thommo managed a steady decline in results and performances and as it declined the hype from Simms escalated as he defended his mate , I think that coloured some peoples views about Thommo. Personally I thought he was a good choice when appointed but stayed at least 2 seasons longer than he should have been given based on results

Whistle did an unreal job when he came in. I didn’t vote for him purely because he left us in a bit of a pickle in the off season, but I’m sure he’d have done great things if he had been with us a couple years+

I didn’t particularly enjoy Matsos hockey so I didn’t vote for him, although I acknowledge he has a good record.
Thomo might have got 6th place from me as he’d did a lot of off ice good by many accounts but his attitude to fans and their concerns, plus not recognising the need to respond more quickly to declining performances counter balance that.
Edited: I’ll just add that Thomo’s appointment never inspired me but he is a good coach, just not the best imo.
Otherwise I’ve matched the majority on the five.

I voted G Adams!
Also Tom Barrasso, Aaron Fox, Doug Christiansen because these are the only coaches I’ve seen in charge of a Steelers team and there was no way on this earth I was going to vote for Thompson so my other vote went to Ronnie Wood for being a hockey coach and a member of the Rolling Stones.
