Thought there'd be some sour grapes from Keefe. Couldn't happen to a nicer coach

I saw that too and where’s the balance? No comment from the Steelers, were our coach and/or players not available??? I guess it was probably written by a BBC NI reporter.

Belfast weren’t good enough to win that game and so tried to bully us out it and stir us into conceding retaliation penalties. Keefe then moans about a call in the first period that although it did give us a 2 goal lead and was a heavy penalty, left plenty of time to turn it around.

I don’t like Keefe. If our guys reacted last night after a few beers late at night I’m not too concerned.

As for the penalty, I have to say on first glance I didn't think it was a 5 minute major, but at the end of the day is was properly reviewed by the officials so Keefe can't really have much to complain about.

Nottingham Panthers Adey on Premier Sports didn't think so either, but had to change his mind when the rule was explained to him.

A few comments on "that" call.

In real time it looked like a boarding, player hit head first into the boards, was it from behind ?, well it wasn't in the middle of the numbers but it certainly was the back of the shoulder, the ref was properly positioned and immediately called it. So was it a 2 or 5 ?, the officials took the time to review the footage, this was not a knee jerk reaction, after viewing they decided it was 5. That's your two officials who were selected to officiate a playoff championship game making a considered judgement with video evidence.

Interesting that the commentators immediately said it's a 2 with the potential for more but not worthy of a +game which is exactly what the call ended up as. The onus is on the person making the hit to do so safely, a split second misjudgement from Printz cost his team 2 PPG and arguably the game.

The smart play was the Steelers not over reacting to the hit and getting a penalty for roughing.

It looked like major in real time. Slowed down for once makes it look better - clumsy rather than deliberate. Always try and take orange specs off for stuff like this. Personally I think they made the correct call - 5 but no game.

If I was a Belfast fan I'd be annoyed at Printz, not the ref. Watch how Tansey played - run the guy when he's facing you, wrap him up and pin when not. It's that simple

"In this type of game, a one-off playoff game, there's not a single chance that's a five-minute major," said Keefe afterwards.

So he'd have been fine with it in a regular season game then I assume, but expects leniency as it's a one-off game.
We took 5 penalties all game, maybe the ref should have kept his whistle in his pocket for those too as it's a one-off game.
They had 53 minutes in the game when they were either even handed or on the powerplay. They lost because they weren't good enough on the night, simple as.

Make stupid plays win stupid prizes. Saying shouldn't be a major in a one off game encourages dangerous play when they think can get away with it. Why should it be acceptable? The refs were given no option on that play, and I think they got the big rub of the green on the minors called/not called.
As Ginger says, look at the man making the play not the ref calling it.

We were on the PP for 7 minutes and scored 2 goals.

True but the second one wouldn’t have happened on a minor as it is terminated by the first goal.

I watched it on Premier. My first reaction was that it was dangerous. Watling’s head was twisted badly as he collided with the boards. I am sure that stopping this kind of foul is why it is assessed as major. On replay I felt that Printz didn’t intend such a violent hit and had nowhere else to go, but the result was the same and it could have seriously injured Watling. A major but allowing the offender to play on feels about right, especially because the stripeys looked at the replays to make sure.

I do feel that the refs called the minor on Juus because we looked like we were going to score 3-4 goals on that 5 minute major.
