Really Simmsy? Our 2017 team wouldn’t even get close to beating the 2001 Grand Slam team. I liked Levi Nelson, but he wouldn’t even get in the 2001 side for me.
I think he means if they'd played them in 2017 they would have beaten them.
Of course then Vial would have been 48 and Brebant well into his 50s......although I still think it would be close

.
Only somebody insane could seriously think the Nelson team would beat the Steelers grandslam team at their best (3rd line Adey/Norris/Allison).

It would at least go to Overtime at those ages v's that team
Mind you, this is coming from the same guy who thinks Paul Thompson is a better coach than Mike Blaisdell
The trouble is he doesn’t really think that! It’s all a justification as to why we’ve failed in keeping up with Cardiff and Belfast in recent years. Aaron recently made a similar comment that last seasons team had the same win percentage as the team that won in 15/16! Come again who gives a fiddlers fart about that were in 2023.In reality what he should be saying is our rivals have raised the standard and we have failed/or can’t match them!
And while he’s at it explain the fact we have given up a place in Europe because the logistical cost brings tears to the owners eyes, plus the fact in more recent years we’re not an hockey club and success is irrelevant but an entertainment first embarrassment, were bums on seats is all that counts. 8-1 drubbings to our rivals are acceptable in Tony’s own words you get used to it.
I noticed in Peter Spencer's interview with Tansey that he said that finishing runners, up, semi final of CC and semi final of the playoffs was made to sound as a good thing in my interpretation. Well if that is acceptable then that's where we will be for many years to come.
The whole Europe place refusal for me just shows a complete lack of ambition by the owner and the club. Cardiff didn't appear to worry about travel, expenses or players injuries.
Running the club 'as a business' (Tony's words) has brought fantastic financial stability, but seems to have lost our sense of ambition to be the best club in the UK, which I always thought were at the core of the club's values. We appear to be quite accepting of being second best.
