It's pretty clear to me that some tough maybe unpopular decisions need taking as this team as it stands cannot compete with a Belfast team many of whom are likely to be retained .
Its a definition of madness to keep doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome.
We need, in my opinion, to be younger, faster and more North American in style.
How you get such players I don't know , that is the challenge for whoever the coach may be, Foxy or no.

Not really Jay, we need a younger fitter group that can last 60/70 games in a season, some of the players signed this year have shown us absolutely nothing & been a total waste of an import slot & wages but yet young Graham who's been banging them in for Steeldogs rarely gets a look in.Jayboy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 12:03 pmYou wouldn't keep Sam Jones but you would keep Davey Philips?BontSteeler wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 11:14 amI'd be pretty ruthless personally.
Only players I'd keep are :
Greenfield
Nevalainen
Ciampini
Neumann
D.Phillips
Whistle
Dowd
Graham
Rest can go for me, he's got a big Summer in front of him.
and you wouldn't keep Scott Allen or Alex Graham or Matt Petgrave ?
yeah thats ruthless and a little bizarre..
I'm getting sick & tired of signing over the hill imports at 30+ year old instead of giving the kids a chance.

Based on what I’ve seen in recent games, I wouldn’t mind Allen returning. But there are other options out there if we need them.SteelerBlade wrote:I think Greenfield & Nevalainen be tough to replace, the other imports can be readily replaced in the market. Only maybes would be one of Piché & Ackered as we could find better players fairly easy but their shot would be very difficult to replace.

Allen is a beast, a different type of player. Strong, clever-hes underappreciated because he's a bit under the radar and not flashy off and on ice.
We need major surgery on the team especially if the coach is staying. What's the point in retaining a big part of this squad along with the coaches. Will be the same repeat next season if do so.

I have a fairly simple metric.
I don’t want to learn defenders names until they’ve been here a while.
That means they are doing their job and not bringing themselves to my attention.
I want to know forwards names from scoring goals, not from taking penalties.

These days players dont seem to have the pride and loyalty for the club like years ago, so they come and goShaun wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:44 pmI have a fairly simple metric.

I get that, but I know Petgrave, Jones for the wrong reasons, they get mentioned for their mistakes/stupid penalties.greeny wrote:These days players dont seem to have the pride and loyalty for the club like years ago, so they come and goShaun wrote: ↑Sun Apr 02, 2023 8:44 pmI have a fairly simple metric.

I didn’t hear Mosey’s name once on Saturday.
I can’t remember hearing McNally’s name for a goal, penalties yes, lots of times.
I think with the system we have in the UK we are pretty much stuck with our brits, it looks like Graham is going to fall into Jonno’s slot, which is unlucky for him, he could have gone further the EIHL, he still might, we haven’t needed our two way very often this season so not sure how they have improved.
Apart from Greenfield I’m not sure about many of the imports, there aren’t many that I feel are the nucleus to build a new team around.
The late additions didn’t shine for long and some have been a disappointment this time round.

Whether you keep a player may be decided by salary as if they are not expensive and bringing something to the table you may be able to improve the team elsewhere. Conversely a player that has done better might not be kept as they may be on a huge wage. Its a bit like fantasy football I suppose.!
For me we need to be younger, fitter and stronger. Of our present group of imports ( notwithstanding salary issues, see above) I would be looking to keep Neuman, Greenfield , maybe Allen ,Petgrave and Kristo.
The rest can go for me as I believe we need a good clearout, hopefully with youngish North American replacements.

I always think the +/- is worth a look, although it needs to be considered with other factors.
Top 5:
Petgrave GP 54 +41
Nevalainen GP 54 +40
Allen GP 50 +27
Ciampini GP 51 +26
Neumann GP 54 +23
Bottom 5:
Kristo GP 47 +7
Graham GP 15 +5
Vallerand GP 19 +3
Mosey GP 39 -2
Ackered GP 15 -4
The outstanding performers are clearly Petgrave and Nevalainen.
Mosey and Ackered's numbers are brutal.
Graham would probably have been much higher up if he'd played more games, so his is a false position.
