I wrote in another thread that the boocam has the potential to to be as big a PR disaster as the kisscam. Bin it before it happens.
How so ?
I am no killjoy and love a bit of banter and even entertainment, but I do tend to agree with those that dont like it and agree could prove to be a total PR disaster...

Eg. IF they pick on someone who is maybe in a minority group, Disabled or vulnerable in some other way (they wouldn't necessarily know from an appearance). This as the very real possibility to offend that person or someone thats sat with them...

And is that really worth it for 30 seconds entertainment value...

I suggest it is not... :slaphead:

I also love a bit of banter, but in today's society the well intended joke could not be seen as that for this particular activity, only a matter of time before something goes wrong here.

Put it in the bad idea bin with along with the kiss cam.

It will stop when some away fan ( inevitably ) starts giving v signs to the camera. Just another example of our lack of class when dealing with away teams like booing a man of the match and teams onto the ice before they've touched a puck.

I've always been uncomfortable with humour that is based on exploiting unwitting participants, it's often felt like bullying to me. It was the ex Manchester Storm announcer back their Arena days, Jon Hammond ( I think that was his name ) who summed it up best, He always said "we don't boo the opposition, we just cheer louder for our own team", a sentiment people could do well to follow. Sadly given our own history in this area it is obvious that this penchant for bullying and ridicule seems to be part of the Steelers media DNA, a trend that has a long history whether it was LGBT people , Womens Hockey in general or calling the opposition "bastards" and continues to this day with some of the output we see and hear. I wonder why that is ?

It's already happened.

A Coventry fan a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure a Nottingham fan this Saturday.

Unfortunately these things are left to manifest until it gets beyond a joke.
I feel we're already past that point.

Why is it then that whoever makes these decisions and ultimately the one who would reverse them is always the last to know the feeling simering in the fan base..

Tony once said of the this forum, it's good to get an heads up on potential issues before it's to late to fix them.. :hey:

The whole social media output has been broken for years.
Things like this just add to already existing problems.

Trying to be reasonable, it's not all of it, some stuff is good but it is the case that too often a decision is made that betrays a lack of judgement, despite having a compliant local media even they have occasionally taken them to task for things that have been said or done, sometimes we have even caused national and international embarrassment. I know some point out the good things they have done but that should be the standard, the bad stuff shouldn't happen, bad enough it happens once but for it to happen again and again ?. That is the single issue that TS has failed to deal with, either he cannot or will not act. The fact is the next incident is only a matter of time away, how bad does it get before something actually gets done about it ?, does it take sponsors to walk away ?, many longstanding fans already have done. Time for someone to find a new career.

For what it is worth I do not like the booking of away fans and teams just for the sake of it.
If there is a particular incident or player that has wound us up then all well and good.
When a team has come into our building and put on a good performance they deserve to be congratulated for that, the least we can give them is a round of applause as they go off.
Which brings me onto the booking of fans on the tron, I know it's supposed to be a bit of fun but like many other things it gets done to death and detracts from what is supposed to be the main reason we are there and that is the game on the ice.
