I'm not as convinced as some that a winning team is the most important factor for Tony Smith. If the money keeps rolling in, why does winning matter? The Sheffield Steelers is primarily a business and all about income and expenditure. The crowds seem pretty healthy even with a lack of trophies. It reminds me of Nottingham. Look how long they went without winning anything - it was a bit of a joke really, yet the club seemed to remain healthy from a financial point of view which is exactly what an owner wants. Winning trophies is just the icing on the cake

You are imo correct

I may also add that both Cardiff and Belfast have owners that treat the sport as a hobby not a business if the club runs at breaking even or at a small loss it doesn’t matter to them they have other sources of income outside of hockey. Belfast and Cardiff are both owned by consortiums of rather affluent people.
However one can’t help feel that our own financial clout should be able to match their spending but that is our owners prerogative.

Fox has been given all the resources possible for success. The budget will be up there with the Giants and Devils. Training facilities and fitness coach etc are also second to none.

I'd question his systems and his unwillingness to recruit 1-2 d men who understand and can play a primary role of D first.

Saying that it's all early days this year but it looks like we have a nettie that will be able to bale us out at times. Do we have the firepower to make up for our possible d zone fragility? I'm not so sure yet but time of course will tell.

My point exactly, this is on Aaron Fox not the club, owner or management or budget.. Time will. Tell in the next month or so how good a team Aaron as built..

Lets just say for arguments sake that we could be out of the League title race in Jan 2023. Does Fox keep his job? :ninja:

It would be a no from me. Harsh I know.

Coaches should always be judged on results, they know that and so do we, it's judging at what point is a change required/justified that is harder. We have been guilty of both being too quick and too slow to dismiss a coach in the past, ironically the fans have been attacked by management in the past for calling for a course of action only to be proven right by subsequent events and the eventual admittance that the problems we could see were visible to them as well, so in reality you can ignore any media output from the club in this area as they will undoubtedly lie about it.

I think this is a defining season for Fox, we were unlucky with injuries last year which may have changed how the season panned out but he needs to demonstrate that he can match the level of Belfast/Cardiff, I also think it's way too early to start calling for his head. Two games don't make a season.

Not calling for his head (yet), but if we're out of the title race early, which I hope we're not to be clear. Then I will be in the No camp.

I like Fox as I think he’s honest, hard working and knows his stuff. I don’t know why he’s not been able to recruit a stud but a number of players have said in their interviews that they wouldn’t have thought of coming here if they hadn’t had shining recommendations from former players, so something must be good about the club and the way we work.

I don’t think this team’s found it’s feet yet and we’ll see them improve.

Much as I was disappointed on Sat on reflection I can see that game wasn’t as bad as I thought and the result could easily have been different.

I don’t think we really have a star player. Nobody really stood out for me. That won’t be a problem if we’ve got a team that works for each other and some scoring from a number of people.

There would be no guarantees or certainty of a winning team with a new coach. We’ve been close so stick with him imo.

Over the next few weeks, we certainly need a few of Aaron's top 6 to start earning their spot a little more, i am especially talking about those brought in to replace the goals and points we lost in Vallerand, Armstrong and Eberle.. players like Brett Neumann and Daniel Ciampini...

Well we've got a relatively easyish run of games until the end of the month.

Storm- 17th - Exhibition Game.....Sorry CC! Cardiff smashed them 8-1
Dundee 18th
Glasgow 22nd
Panthers 25th - CC
Panthers 1st Oct - CC

That should get our players firing. We don't see the big boys (Cardiff - Oct or Belfast - Nov).

Sure our next two home games are CC, so that'll be the stream for me, not really bothered about the CC to be honest. Dundee & Glasgow are the real important games for me with them being League games.
