I often monitor sound levels. It’s easy to do, plenty of free reasonably good sound level meters for IOS. We often get into the levels on 80 and 90dba. These are levels you could get compensation for if they were at work. Without getting too techy decibels are on a logarithmic scale so going from say 70 to 80 say is actually a huge increase.
One compensating factor I find is that the sound system is so poor that at these levels it becomes incomprehensible. This is largely due to imbalance in frequency patterns removing the elements of speech sound that we most use to achieve understanding of English. It’s why us oldies need hearing aids that try to correct the frequency pattern as well as upping the level.

I have to agree with Bryan, sensible name too. Shouting into a mike is the worst thing you can do , it just distorts the voice making it unintelligable. On sunday without the accompanying picture on the jumbotron I thought Simmsy had said the starting line up had been announced by a brick melon , turned out to be Eric Meland.
Well we heard about Brick Melon too so it must be true as that was what we were told from on high!
It was one of the loudest experiences I can remember and was a case of ramping up the volume for a ‘ big game’ which was unnecessary as the team had all the support they needed from the crowd.
I would like to have measured the noise level at the back of 117 where we sit as I bet it would have been booming at over 90dbs. as it was so loud.
Please Mr Smith ask the ‘Whitehouse’ to turn the volume down (and to stop shouting!). The volume is adjustable as often in the period breaks it is at a sensible level.
