Today the Star has chosen to report details from the Coroners Report into his untimely loss. To avoid causing distress to his friends and family I would like to ask you not to discuss this on Steeltalk, we will not be posting any links to the article. I hope you will agree with this request, if you feel the need to discuss it please do so elsewhere.
Thanks
Mark

The reaction on social media towards him and the decision to publish is pretty vicious with one ex-player revealing that as a group the team members asked for him to be barred from the Arena after last year with AJ. Another misjudgement I believe, some are calling for a boycott of The Star and I can sympathise with that. They have chosen not to give any coverage so far this season but decide this is appropriate and let Westerdale write it just to make the insult worse. It's like they almost trying to go out of business, maybe they will succeed ?.

Assuming he wants to be helpful, maybe he just wants clicks on his story and any other consideration isn't as important to him. He is not stupid despite what some think, we don't know his motivation nor the content of any discussions with the editor beforehand, perhaps they thought the clicks would outweigh any backlash but putting his name on it after the AJ incident just makes him a target for abuse. I doubt we'll ever get a rational explanation of why in the same way that there was no real apology after AJ, just a weak defence which made it look even worse.

As he's a freelance contributor, so therefore has free choice over what he covers and submits, I can only conclude that to offer this for publication was a decision he made consciously.
The information is in the public domain, but to seek it out and promote it for profit shows the character of the individual involved.
Sam Jones sums it up well with his tweet.
He may try the "public interest defence". However, there's a major difference between what some of the public may be interested in, and what is actually in the public interest.

Personally I feel like this story should've been left alone, it's bad enough the family have lost their son at a young age but to then have it all dragged up again and making it public knowledge how how the kid lost his life is something they wouldn't want.
Personally I'm on Oxycodone and it's a chuffing strong drug, something that I'm personally still trying to get used to, I can certainly see how its addictive.
Let the young lad rest in peace and be remembered for being a bloody good ice hockey player and not the story that is being dredged up by a bloke who I personally have zero respect for.

I did not think westerdale could sink any lower in my opinion but guess what he has. He is lower than a snakes belly. He has a serious problem and I agree with all that the video said. THE STAR NEEDS TO GET RID OF HIM QUICKLY. my thoughts go out to all the families he has hurt with his thoughtless reporting.

The editor of the Star has allowed this article to be published, that should tell you how likely it is they will get rid of him, as an organisation they could have stopped this but they chose not to, they are not an innocent party, they are complicit in this.heathk01 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 26, 2024 9:41 amI did not think westerdale could sink any lower in my opinion but guess what he has.
