At last weekend’s game against Coventry we asked that all fans wore masks and were grateful for those who accepted these instructions. This will be an ongoing requirement for Steelers games in the near future and these rules will be enforced by those at the Arena.[/quote
Tony Smith wrote:It is with great regret that we have had to take these steps today though common sense has to prevail and the safety of all has to take priority.
“I will personally oversee that everyone affected by this decision will be contacted and be fully satisfied with the outcome. It is the last thing we want to do, especially at this time of the year but I don’t think we had any other options as we try and ensure that players are distanced from large crowds of people and that games can still be played
“Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to seeing you all (masked where possible) shortly at the arena”]

A welcome and common sense statement from Steelers management. I worry that the Arena staff may not be capable of enforcing mask wearing, numerous reports of people wandering around unmasked at the last home game so it would be nice to hear what steps are taken in that regard. If not already arranged I'd also suggest that everyone in the Whitehouse should be wearing masks with the exception being for the person who is actually speaking into the microphone, and if that mic is used by anyone else it needs sanitising first. That room is a bit of a fan magnet and can act as a bit of a superspreader hub if precautions are not taken, it's also a visible representation of how seriously the Steelers org are taking things, I'm sure there are people in there who have vulnerable relatives and I would not want them to be the cause of transmission .

Up to now I have actually felt very safe in our arena and for the most part still do, especially has our seats are the first seats in our block at the bottom and overlook concourse so massive wide open space immediately in front of us.. the mask wearing by the majority was and is encouraging...
However we have decided not to go to the home game on the 22nd december against the Clan (pity we were looking forward to watching the Clan), we will use that event to see what the reaction is from fans on Steeltalk and other social media to what extra protocols the arena have put in place.. and depending on those reports and reactions decide then what to do going forward.. over to the arena staff and fans to make sure its safe..

If anyone who’s going to the game today does get chance to update this thread that would be great.

Were people checked for Covid passports or negative test?
Masks - hopefully the majority were wearing?
Business as usual? Hopefully not.

Well up to now, the cameras have shown a disappointing lack of masks in the crowd, so initially it looks like the arena staff are certainly not enforcing the mask at all times rule...

Messaged a pal at the game. No checks for them at the door for negative test or covid passport. Straight in.

Oh dear. Did they not get Boris’ memo?
This is one way to bring about the end of the season to an abrupt end.

I went to the game last night and it looked to me that there were substantially more people wearing masks but still not enough.
There are still and always will be those that refuse to wear masks and apart from the medically exempt I see this is a selfish and irresponsible decision on their part.
With regard to Covid passes we have been checked in the past and perhaps random checks are the way to go.

I am sorry but in the rule/law says masks should be worn at all times then no mask no game..
The Covid rules and protocols have been but in place for very specific reasons..
