Guildford have always played this style, it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.
Brust doesn't look right, whether it's age, fitness, ring rust, more concerned with Uni than hockey or a combination of all those Is hard to know. It seems that Fox had other good options but wanted brust. That may haunt us in the coming months. I'm not sure Rok is a long term answer but he looks the better option than Brust currently by far.
Shulze and Ellerby are a concern defensively, and I also wonder about Deluca and (don't shoot me) connolly. Deluca is morphing into one of those players with the bad attitude, mouthing off and petulance. I see he kicked the Flames nettie when he was on the ground. Dont like to see that from a Steelers team/player.

Guildford looked a younger faster and stronger team . Some of their defencemen are incredibly well built, almost square with power to match. There are no fancy pedigrees here either, many have not played at a high level but they certainly have good recruitment in Guildford as they seemed to have gelled already.
Just one game and too early to be sure I know, but we look a bit lightweight and a bit too fancy in places , preferring to line up the perfect goal by lots of passes instead of shooting. This resulted in some passes being picked off and away they went at speed up the ice.
Barry will want a few back, but again , too early to say whether he is a better choice than Rok as first goalie. Suspect they will share it until one player proves his worth.
I suspect this Flames side will surprise a fair few of the “ top “ teams, if they stay fit. Good to see they got a good leaving clap at the end. They deserved the win. Hope we get it together better tomorrow with a bit more luck in front of goal and improved goaltending, whoever is in there.

I thought I saw Deluca kick the goalie. That’s not acceptable and I hope Fox had a strong word if he saw it or that someone points it out if not. He needs to know that the club does not sanction that.paul johnston wrote: ↑Sat Oct 09, 2021 11:45 pmGuildford have always played this style, it shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

I don’t see Connolly being any different to usual.
None of us will know the story with Brust but so far he’s not looking like the nettie we expect to be between the pipes for us. Maybe he needs more time, he’s clearly been well up to it. The question is how long can he be given?
I’m not going to get down on the team yet, hopefully last night was a wake up call and one to chalk off as a bad night. Tonight’s response will show what kind of team we have. Some teams you struggle against, maybe Guildford is that team for us this season.
Let’s not forget we came back against Cardiff and Coventry, both good teams and we are only a few games in.
Well beaten last night by a superior team. Ellerby looked like he thinks his pedigree is enough and doesn't need to put the effort in. Todd is skilled on the puck but far to small and lightweight to be an effective D man. We need some size and presence at the back . So far this season every team has had that and Flames had a couple of those. Bolton had size, strength, mobility and a cannon of a shot. We really need to step up.

Didn't read the comments about last nights performance till just now! How negative can can people be about one poor performance?? I watched the game on the stream last night and yes we were poor for periods of the game but two of their goals were off a skate and one was offside if you watch closely? we also outshot them 2-1, so we must have done something right, and their coach stated his NM had a blinder!!
Yes Brust didn't have a great game but it was his second game in 18 months so give him a bit of slack, everyone was complaining about 'Roc' and he's been playing regularly this passed year.
These guys don't become bad players after just one game!!!!!
Tonight we got the game back, enough said!
