Looks an experienced signing, hopefully the next couple of signings are a bit of the bigger size as we are looking a pretty small side at present, particularly compared to some of the other sides being put together in the league so far! Also interesting to see it stated in The Star that the netminder has been signed but not yet announced, let the guessing begin!
SteelerBlade made two posts linking us with Oleksuk and Barry Brust, he's got the first one spot on, so is Brust going to be our netminder?
As for Oleksuk, he looks a decent enough player, but another one at the latter end of his career.
The big question for me is whether we can get a similar output from our retained players compared to last time.
If we can then we should be fine, because there are plenty of goals across Dowd, Eberle, Connolly, Armstrong, DeLuca and Vallerand.
If not, we could be in trouble, because I don't think there are enough goals in the new guys.

Seems a bit more of a true centre to me, can player the wings (they all can to a degree) but prefers the centre role and that gives us in effect 4 possible centres, if he is good in the face off circle he is sure to be the kind of player to make a very good addition.Doom wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:20 amSteelerBlade made two posts linking us with Oleksuk and Barry Brust, he's got the first one spot on, so is Brust going to be our netminder?

Describes himself as knowing his job at the back to which can't be underestimated in a player in Fox;s setup..
also seems a character and a team guy in the locker room. Second only to the speed of a team I think Fox builds up a fantastic locker room environment as one of his priorities in a team..
There is nothing worse than a team full of superstar primadonnas that pull apart rather than bond and work together... give me a guy wanting to play his part week in week out, over the stud forward only interested in his Stats sheet, everyday of the week...

I don’t see why we couldn’t get a similar amount of goals from our retained players. Another year in the league, another year of playing together and what looks like a better crop of centres throughout the lines this year. I think we will do good. That being said a few if the other teams also looking very strong this year.Doom wrote: ↑Tue Jul 27, 2021 9:20 amSteelerBlade made two posts linking us with Oleksuk and Barry Brust, he's got the first one spot on, so is Brust going to be our netminder?

I can’t take credit for it lol, a Twitter account by the name of @RumoursEIHL seems to have contacts across the league and has been leaking signings well before they’re announced.Doom wrote:SteelerBlade made two posts linking us with Oleksuk and Barry Brust, he's got the first one spot on, so is Brust going to be our netminder?

My mate who does his annual stats currently has us at 196 goals.
I always think you need a minimum of 220 to be competitive, so we should be ok with 1F and 3D still to come.
I suspect he's probably a bit high on some of our retained players, because I'd expect their output to fall with Old Father Time catching up with them, but he also only has Latal at 5 goals, which I suspect will be well short of his actual output.

At the moment, I can't really say I'm really excited by any of our new signings and do have a concern at the current average age of our squad.
While there is no substitute for experience a few players are now coming to the end of their careers and I hope that doesn't mean their output will be reduced.
It will be interesting to see what the remaining few will be.
I would be happy with Barry Brust if he is indeed our new goalie.

Barry Brust is almost 38 - is there no concern about his fading abilities - and the subsequent rise in the team's average age? After all, age is as big a concern for a nettie as for anyone else on the ice.smbmetal wrote: ↑Wed Jul 28, 2021 10:27 amAt the moment, I can't really say I'm really excited by any of our new signings and do have a concern at the current average age of our squad.
