I think some players had aspirations above their abilities.

Let's remember that our TEAM lost two 20+ goals a season players and Aron recruited 2 players of a lesser quality, for what ever reason and one of the players we lost was also the heart beat of the team in my opinion.

I'm waiting with bated breath to hear from my likely gloating mum and sister!
I actually think it's good news for us. I've said for months we've been poor and got results when performances weren't great. I enjoyed the hockey more in our Covid shortened season, then the elite series over this season. We've gone backwards in performance big time in my view.
Fox has been unsuccesfull two years in a row challenging for the league. Needs to look at his tactics and where he recruits from, along with the type, age and attitude of player.
Need to get back to some old fashioned blue collar, hard working, gritty club that we used to be. This flash, brash, Eddy adoring club isn't us and isn't successful (in the trophy cabinet which should be the measure of success).

Exactly. But I can't see fox changing. He's been the same all 3 seasonspaul johnston wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 8:26 pmI'm waiting with bated breath to hear from my likely gloating mum and sister!

We lost Connolly and Deluca who at the time of their varied reasons for departure were seriously underwhelming/underperforming. Would they have come good? Possibly. I do feel that the unexpcted underwhelming performance of most of our retained
Imports has been a big factor in our lack of success. Add new recruits Brust, Hodgman and Ellerby not living up to their CV expectation then always going to be a struggle.
Battling qualities, toughness when the battle is hard going has also been sadly missing.

I think there are a number of issues for Fox to address over the summer.
His recruitment has been focused on European players: he doesn't seem to have many contacts within the US & Canada.
The free flowing, stretch pass style has been worked out by the other coaches. Last night Pacha it seemed had instilled in his players not to allow us freedom down the centre of the ice and keep us to the outside.
Simply, the Steelers are a soft side. Without Connelly we've not had anyone to properly get under the skin, neither have we had a tough guy, so opponents have had a fairly easy ride.
Last but not least, please, please, please can we have blue liners that can defend and some good two-way forwards.

I thought we had a great start and scored 3, but then eased up on the pressure and allowed Dundee back into the game. We had every opportunity to get through tonight. Congratulations to Dundee though. We need more character in the team!

I have been preparing quite a long piece on Fox’s recruitment styles since his addition in 2019.raetiamann wrote: His recruitment has been focused on European players: he doesn't seem to have many contacts within the US & Canada.
Watch this space will probably post a thread tomorrow once the dust has settled a bit.
