Paul Thompson hockey virtually broke this club over 3 miserable seasons and no amount of spin will change that, Aaron Fox is the one man who is changing it.. Embrace the difference not the change, I am all for nostalgia and would love to see some of the missing old time hockey, but I am also all for progress and change to adapt to the current climate.
That way the team adapts and shows everyone Sheffield Steelers still is about winning hockey games! Some fans just will not come along for the ride and that's a shame, its their choice but it's still a shame, because in my honest apriasal of this seasons team, we are head and shoulders over anything we have been in the last 4 seasons and with plenty of potential to improve even further.. Isn't it time to admit its different but it isn't all bad?

It's certainly much much improved.
A Thompson side would not have fought back like the team did so in Cardiff last night. That kind of side would have dropped their heads after the second Devils goal and been beaten heavily. Fox has done wonders so far, and I think he's only touching the tip of the iceberg. There's more to come from him for sure. Players seem to be happy to playing hockey the way they do, and it's good to see a proper team effort.
Obviously someone else will try and take the credit for it. You know the score as they say.

It’s well documented on here that this team and the EIHL in general is really not to some liking and I have to admit I see their point and in some case agree with it, but here is the rub, I also like hockey too much to despise the new hockey that much I won’t try to understand and watch it more... and maybe just maybe appreciate it for what it is, I have to admit to longing for a dam good scrap or a slanging match on the bench and a good bad guy character with our own team, Connely and Deluca coming the closest.
But in the meantime this team and the hockey they are playing is pretty dam good, especially when pitched up against the dross we had been served up in the last 3 seasons.. if I can sit through that crap, then What Fox is moving towards comes out golden very quickly in my opinion...

One of the differences I have noticed this season is that a player might have an off night but the rest of the team rally round and up their game so as you do not notice as much.
Last season if one had an off night they all had an off night.
I certainly take the point that we need to enjoy what we have rather than harking after the past and this team have made that easier to do, for me anyway.

At the start of the season I became a bit disenchanted with the whole thing, think it was the last 2 seasons that did it, but I now look forward to going simply because this is A TEAM and even if you go 3 goals down there is a chance of winning. Also for the first time I can remember a powerplay means a good chance of a goal. Just hope a lot of this team return and that the shortsightedness of reducing imports and bench size doesn't have a massive impact

There is definitely a different attitude across the team this season. Credit has to be given to Fox in the way he has gone about rebuilding our team. He clearly came in with a clear view on what he wanted his team identity to be. And he has recruited (generally) well, replacing when he needed to and also adapting his recruitment as he understood the league better. Compare that to last seasons recruitment both at the start and through the season.
From the foundation of good recruitment has developed a style of hockey that is proving to be effective and (for me) really entertaining. However this season ends, I feel that we are seeing the start of new era and I am really positive about the future.

I think Fox has done an amazing job as his first role in the EIHL, at the start of the season I know a bunch of us gave him credit for his recruitment skills, but were still unsure what his coaching abilities would be like, I think it's safe to say he's pretty good on both counts!
I've seen other fans commenting on the Steelers revolving door policy when it comes to players, but I do like how he isn't afraid to cut out the guys who aren't performing to the right standard.
My only concern is that for next season when the import limit is lowered, and the total number of imports that can be signed during the season is limited too. We will have to hope that we don't suffer the same injury problems that we have done this year!

The big difference with this year's team is that we once again have some characters in our ranks; it's been a few years. Without wishing to beat the same drum over and over again, a tough dman/winger would complete the picture for me.
It is though chalk and cheese from Thommos recruitment and for that I'm delighted.
