So how does the line-up look now with regards to forward lines and D-pairings?

Can Southorn play both D and F?

Will be something like:

Seitz - Pu - Balmas
Juusola - Jasper - Gentile
New - Dowd - Tait
Shudra - Tremblay - Neilson

Huttula - Cormier
New (Dougherty rumoured) - Diffley
Tansey - Kelly
Southorn

Greenfield
McAdam
Brit N/M (likely Warburton)

So 2 extra imports, one of which will be an import goalie. My gut is Southorn is spare initially, but I think will depend on camp. Tansey will take a forward spot if we have an injury there
Im not overly keen on the thought of our 2nd centre being a winger who has played centre in the past. A bit of an achilles heel of hours trying to find guys who are generally wingers and asking them to fulfill that role. Would like a number 2 centre that is predominantly known for playing at centre.
It's all changeable though depending on who the final forward is. Equally, you could put Balmas at 1C, move up Gentile to play with him, put Pu at 2C with Jasper and Juusola, or add Tait in the mix.

What I would say is the top 9 will likely be pretty interchangeable with each other, since I have pretty much all of 8 signed capable of hitting 0.75 PPG and up.

Jasper's no mug, he's played in very good leagues. He's apparently quick too which could fall very nicely in to a line with Juusola and Tait.
Im looking forward to seeing 3 speedy top lines. When we roll 4 lines, going hard at the opposition, we can be a force to be reckoned with.

I'm hoping we sign another top 6 centre, then we could put Juusola on a line with Tait and move Jasper onto the wing.

I'd like to see how the speed of Tait and Juusola works together. Would it open up a bit more space for Tait if teams also have to worry about shutting down the speed of Juusola?

I've no idea, but I'd like to see if it works.

Regards

Signing early next week apparently according to Yorkshire Post article. I assume this will be Dougherty.

Just the final forward to go after that.

Am I wrong to think that Golod isn't the final forward, or am I to be as happy the preverbial "Larry" if it's him. What do you, far better informed and knowledgable then me feel?

No idea in all honesty. I think likelihood it's not him, as interviews etc suggests last forward spot is still being recruited. Who knows though - he's not signed anywhere yet. I wonder if his reason for returning home is possibly why though. He might not be in a position to commit to anyone yet depending on what that situation is (no idea).

Likely Fox has waited to see what the fall outs from NHL/AHL free agency to see if can pick up a Balmas-esque signing (no AHL spot so head to Europe)

Jack Dougherty is confirmed officially as a Steelers player...

https://www.sheffieldsteelers.co.uk/dou ... ue-line-7/

Dougherty was drafted by Nashville Predators in the 2nd round (51st overall) of the 2014 NHL draft.
After turning pro in 2015-16 with Milwaukee, Jack went on to have an outstanding North American career, playing for 8 seasons (314 regular season AHL games) with Milwaukee, Rochester and Belleville before Europe beckoned and Jack moved to Kölner at the end of 2023 in the German DEL. The following season saw a move to Nürnberg Ice Tigers before moving last season to Austria and the Vienna Capitals.
Aaron Fox commented:
Jack is a versatile defenseman that does all the little things right needed to win hockey games. He will play physical and get stops defensively, he blocks a ton of shots and is really smart on executing his retrievals and regroups. Jack was a full time AHL D man with European stops in the DEL and Austria. I think he will complement our group very well and will be someone we rely heavy on for the PK.
Jack Dougherty commented:
Aaron Fox didn’t have to work hard on selling the Steelers to me, I had heard many great things about the club and organisation so when the chance came up I was very happy to listen to what was being said. Then you add to that the signing of Evan Jasper who I played with last year and I thought Sheffield was the place for my wife and I head to. It was good to meet the coach rather than just chat and e-mail, we discussed lots of things over coffee and I liked what I heard. I’m a two way defenseman that can play in all situations. I love killing penalties and I’m the guy you send over the boards in the last two minutes of a game to see it out, that’s my gig. I work hard, I’m an experienced guy and I hope that rubs off on the team, I’m here to do whatever is needed to help us win.

Top signing, some AHL resume there, really glad to see a quality right shot import D man. I know some aren't bothered but I feel you need a few rightys scattered throughout the team.

Of all the new signings, this is possibly my favourite one.

He looks to have a very good pedigree and it now gives us lots of options.

We could play 6 import d and rest an import forward and throw Kelly up front.

We could play 5 import d and throw Tansey up front to replace an import forward who is injured/rested.

The balance of the squad is looking very good with most bases covered. I hope we can finish it off with a good centre or Golod. I did hear we were still in talks with Golod a few weeks ago, but it's gone a bit quiet since then.

Welcome to Sheffield Jack!

Has to be one the potential best defensive new signings in the league with the AHL pedigree he has there. A good age too.

Really hope he can play a physical game and clear the crease.

Looking forward to seeing him play!
