Get the point on rivals etc, but it was made official weeks ago he wasn't returning to Nottingham, so that's why I see it as a bit of a nothing burger. If you're going to push the rival angle it needs to be told in the 'he chose us' manner to really play on it, whereas this just feels like we've picked up a player that wasn't really in his previous coaches plans.Shaun wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 10:46 amProbably trying to make it a bigger thing, signing from our Arch Rivals, the son of their old coach etc.ginger wrote:Not unhappy with that, but did it really warrant 5 days of build up? Could have just released that at the weekend. I get the stretching out of announcements for engagement but I wouldn't do the build up thing for any players other than massive signings or returnees (i.e Greenfield I'd have zero issue with that kind of build up)
Good that we are being a Brit in, but I’m interested in who he is replacing and are we going to be able to bolster the team to balance out the difference whilst he gets up to speed and reaches his potential.

I've no issue with this signing, I just hope it doesn't mean we've lost Whistle to Belfast.
Neilson brings plenty of size and has in the past had a purple patch of goal scoring. Looking at his game log, between 10/2/24 and 3/3/24 he scored 8 goals in 10 games, mainly on a 3rd line with Westin Michaud and Alex Lunsjo.
Use him correctly and hopefully we can get decent output from him.

Whistle is the question mark, definitely. If he does stay, I suspect that means Ulrick spends more time at the Dogs. Which may be not be a bad thing long term given the indication from Henry Staelens that the import limit is set to reduce by 1 after next season. Gets Ulrick and IBN another development year before likely needed to step up full time.Doom wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 11:02 amI've no issue with this signing, I just hope it doesn't mean we've lost Whistle to Belfast.

Given Dowd cannot continue forever, it seems like some sensible long term planning
Think this one will depend on whistle’s destination. If whistle stays I think Neilson for Ulrick is an upgrade but if Brandon is going it’s a downgrade on him.
Do like Neilson as a player though think he’s a solid pick up. Wonder if we’ll try to tempt Cade in the future

Obviously not set in stone or anything but if they do drop the import limit even by just 1, I personally think it's a backwards move for the league. I understand it's good to bring more home grown talent through but as fans surely we want to watch the best possible players available and if we wanted to watch British lads we would go to the dogs etc.
Just my opinion.
Welcome to Steelers Mr Neilson.

Appears Watling is off to France with Angers.
Whilst I think there's probably another year in him, it's always a risk if he does drop off further. I wonder as well if it's a good move from his point of view - less games, generally slower paced than EIHL

Was disappointed with Patrick this year, his extra sparkle that he had last year that got me on the edge of my seat had gone, points were down, but was the softness, over-moaning and simulation that crept into his game was the thing I most disliked.

I'll be honest, I really like him. Injury is probably the reason points were down. Last 20 games or so he was playing at a different level, and on par with the previous year.paul johnston wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 5:47 pmWas disappointed with Patrick this year, his extra sparkle that he had last year that got me on the edge of my seat had gone, points were down, but was the softness, over-moaning and simulation that crept into his game was the thing I most disliked.
Easily a top 5 centre in the league last year. But I think Fox looking to get younger, so it makes sense he's one of the ones who makes way. Might have offered him 2C and he's been offered 1C in a league with less workload when he's another year older.
I think the question will be replacement. If it does turn out to be Braden Christoffer then I'll not be too upset. There's a couple of others who I've got eyes on for no other reason than CV screams potential EIHL signings. Again if it was one of those I'd be pretty comfortable with Watling leaving

If he'd have been 2c next year and he cut out the negatives that had crept into his game I'd be well happy.ginger wrote: ↑Sat May 17, 2025 6:51 pmI'll be honest, I really like him. I think Patrick Watling, was the best player in the league in his first year, not so good in his second year and I think the reason for this was he got knocked around to much in a good few games, we had nobody to protect him, so I feel with the right sort of team mates around him he would have been a lot better than the player we saw last year.
