Rumours - Season 24/25

Rick Brebant wasn't most people's favourite person either. I thought he was fantastic for the Steelers and am happy he was a major part of Grand Slam Team number 2.
I don't follow social media and am not interested players personal lives or views as they're none of my business. If they're a proven winner and give their all on the ice that's good enough for me.
The one thing that IS very important is if Fox thinks the said player can fit in with the existing group.

I think for me, being a bit of a marmite character is fine, and that is not really the issue. Unfortunately when players go on social media and interact with accounts that we've seen pump out racist/homophobic stuff, then that's got potential to cause real issues. It undermines a lot of messaging clubs put out, and I'm sure it could quite easily cause frictions in the room.smbmetal wrote: ↑Tue May 07, 2024 1:39 pmRick Brebant wasn't most people's favourite person either. If you don't do social media, then you would not have seen the level of racism that these accounts spewed towards Petgrave after AJ. Now imagine we had a player retweeting and liking these accounts on his page.
Race/sexuality/gender isn't political to me. The simple answer is that we are all equal and deserve to be treated as such. Given that we have one of the very few openly non straight (I believe Sullivan identifies as bi) players in the world, the EIHL is actually way ahead of some leagues. Can't imagine a player lasting long in Manchester who constantly shared/liked homophobic content on their socials.

Both appear to be big supporters of Trump and all the wonderful right wing views prevalent on social media.

Are we seriously suggesting we shouldn't sign players based on if they like individuals such as Trump?
So long as they aren't members of parties such as Britain First, it's none of our business

Trump is farther down the path of hatred than Britain First so I'm not sure what you say makes sense.Joesteeler wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 1:10 pmAre we seriously suggesting we shouldn't sign players based on if they like individuals such as Trump?

Just having a different political perspective is fine, but if you're going down the racist/homophobic rabbit hole, that's not politics, that's just outright being a terrible person.
That does count for something.

Good to see the Steelers doing podcasts through the Summer, it keeps fans informed and interested.

Simms mentioned that there are quite a few players signed up, but the club have taken the decision not to release any names for the next 3 or 4 weeks.

I know Mike Ratchuk personally and talk often, a very nice chap, with honest and forth right views, many I haven't agreed with him on, also had some major issues in his life and has overcome many of them too. It's worth adding he adores the Sheffield Steelers and the fansginger wrote:Both appear to be big supporters of Trump and all the wonderful right wing views prevalent on social media.

Base and was desperate to come back to play at a very difficult part of his life...
He follows our games closely and loved the grand slam achievements.
Some people in America have a very squewed view on patriotism and political opinions. It does not make them bad people or players, it just doesn't, however sometimes it does.. Each person should be judged individually not collectively..
That's called tolerance, I bet you a pound to a poo cavered dollar some of our grand slam squad players (in other words some of the best players we have ever had) any of them, have rather odd political views when there back home..
