Just noticed that Balmas' 2 points tonight now put him as joint top points scorer in the league with 44 from 36. Can understand why Fox jumped at the chance to bring him in at the last minute when he became available.
Wasn't Balmas a long term target for Fox? I seem to remember being told we were in for him very early but the player would not or could not commit until he saw his other options.. once a few of his other options didn't look to be right choice or fizzled out and once our team was complete Balmas became available late on.. but earlier than expected.. we had him pencilled in has a later signing? I may have some of that arse about tit (I get told a fair bit of player info) But I do think he was always a target.. :Puzzle:

To be fair Jay, that's how I remember it, Fox identified him very early but Balmas was waiting on potential offers from elsewhere but then became available.

Quality player but to be fair to Fox his recruitment this year has been superb, I wouldn't look to move 1 player on but such as the nature of hockey we'll see new faces next season.

It's hard to understand why Guildford are not the second placed team chasing us down, they seem to offer much more than Belfast or Cardiff this season.

My understanding is the same as above, that Balmas was an earlier target for Fox but he wanted to keep his options open.

He then came back into the equation and Fox made him our final signing. I think it was mentioned that Balmas reached out to Kielly who he knew and had already signed on the dotted line for us.

All of Fox's potential risky signings seem to have come off this season.....Not a Mitchell or McNally in sight.

Thought I'd look up to see how Kameron Kielly has done since he left Steelers.

He was picked up by the South Carolina Stingrays in the ECHL. (The same team where we picked up an impressive (to date) Patrick Harper)

To date his stats are :

GP : 32

Goals : 6

Assists : 11

Total : 17

Fox has recruited so well this season. Amazingly good are the replacements brought in during the season. I feel dreadfully sorry for Petgrave, who I think has been dealt with disgracefully, but His replacement has been excellent.

Hi Bryan,

I'd agree, particularly with regards to Cormier replacing Petgrave. I thought the loss of Petgrave would hurt our transition from defence, but Cormier has been more than an equal replacement.

With regards to how Petgrave has been dealt with, I assume you don't mean by the club, because my understanding is they've been very supportive. Some on Social Media though :-o

Enjoyed the highlights.

Couple of observations. Ferguson was lucky to stay in the game. And the O’Connor boarding was also lucky that he didn’t get 5 minutes as well……..

BUT……

Now I know this is an unpopular opinion, but for me not one person stuck up for boarding penalty they all skated by. Go and sort O’Connor out! He might think twice next time. Tansey is also more than capable of sorting the guy out who crossed checked him. Then Greenfield is taken out and again, nothing!

Sorry, not looking after teammates boils my blood!

Whilst we’re playing very well, the lack of physical play is very much lacking for me.

Rant over…..

From what I remember from when he was announced, Fox wanted him early on but expected him to re-sign in the AHL so went for Kielly......then Balmas became available last minute, which pretty much pushed Kielly to being the spare import.
