Personally I am happy to see the reduction in imports by one.
Will it reduce the quality of the product on offer? Maybe. However if the clubs invest a little of the “savings” in a better quality import then we may actually see the league improve.
Giving the opportunity for a few more Brits to develop by playing with and against better players will in the long term be good for the league. For the first time ever we are seeing a pathway for youngsters in Sheffield to develop from junior hockey, through the Steeldogs (who I think are doing a fantastic job in giving opportunities to homegrown talent) and onto the Steelers.
Now all we need is a rule that forces clubs to give British netminders ice time. For example they have to play for a minimum of 600 minutes in a season. This could easily be done in the dead rubber CC games and those games where a team is 3 or 4 up/down. Discuss!

How many games have we had that have been out of hand score-wise where the back-up can come in and get some ice time? 2-4 at most. This would equate to around 25 mins of ice time. Its very rare to get back-ups playing more than 150 mins a season. Jackson Whistle and Stephen Murphy haven't played 600 mins yet.Orange Spartan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 10:52 am

Yeah, guess 600 minutes might be a stretch. However, I do think that it would be a good idea to find a way to encourage coaches to use the back up netminders a little bit more.

If Graham is to do a Liam Kirk then next season is huge for him. He's got the potential, if he gets regular ice time then who knows what he can achieve.
Shudes Jr and Brown can be useful 4th line options if we use them correctly. Kerlin is still learning and needs to be given a bit of increased ice time in non-important games to boost his development and Griffin could be a decent option on D if we want to take the next stage in his career otherwise he'll not move any better than what he's at the moment.
But Alex Graham is the one who needs to really flourish next season with a regular run in the side and he can do it.

Brown's been injured for a large part of this season, so we'll never know if his ice time would have increased though.
