Also just been linked with Brien Diffley from the Odense Bulldogs.

Age on his side, 6'2 D man. Not so productive points wise - so would expect him to be a Davey type of replacement.

Some of us see that as quite a positive attribute in a defender...teeLIST wrote: ↑Thu Jun 08, 2023 9:39 pmAlso just been linked with Brien Diffley from the Odense Bulldogs.

I can't say I'm too fussed about this.
Good +/- with Cardiff last season, but poor the seasons prior to that.
We were having a look at some of the other rumoured players tonight, nobody jumped out as a must have, but generally more a thumbs up than a thumbs down.
Fox doesn't seem to like stay at home defencemen with low points and good +/-.
Hopefully Nevalainen will be back next season, because he completely changed his style of play to accommodate Petgrave.....that's a team player.

As some will already be aware. Tansey pretty much confirmed that another “redhead” is coming with him who he’s close friends with, who also was tipped to join last year. Safe to say, this is Saucerman.
He also mentions another, saying they all played together and were all at a Wedding not so long ago. Assuming that this is Ciampini’s return, but he does say it’s a good core of “new” guys coming in.. so maybe just smoke!
For reference this is on the 4000 & counting podcast on YouTube.

I'd be OK with Saucerman, he's another guy in his 30's, which suggests we're not particularly getting any younger as a team, but his stats overall are decent.
I tend to look at +/- first with defencemen. Last season was quite poor for Saucerman in the ECHL, but the two seasons prior to that he was near the top with his European teams, so maybe he's more suited to the big ice of Europe.
If we have signed him we already have two defencemen on paper capable of scoring double digits in our league......I'm not sure if that's a good thing. It would be nice to have at least one Steve Munn type shutdown defenceman who Fox could throw on in the last minute of a game where we have a one goal lead, but that just doesn't seem to be his style.
If Ciampini also returns it will start to feel very much like the same formula for next season, with a team of ageing players and defencemen who like to be forwards.....I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Regards

Saucerman is definitely the guy he mentioned re: redhead. I couldn't decide whether the 3rd guy is Ciampini, or if there's another to come as well. If there is another then the 2 names from that Innsbruck team that stood out (and would also have been imports) were Braden Kristoffer and Sam Herr. Given Kristoffer has just had 2 good seasons in Liiga, I would guess he's not an option, but Herr has been in DEL2, so I suspect more likely.teeLIST wrote: ↑Tue Jun 13, 2023 11:31 pmAs some will already be aware. Of course it could be in relation to Ciampini so might be nothing on either of those, but I know Fox liked Herr when he was with Nottingham, (did get his CV I think that summer) so potentially might be an option

Yeah i agree, do think there was some smoke to the second guy as he did say core of "new" guys. My only thought would be Deven Sideroff, as both Kristoffer and Herr are signed for next year in Liiga & DEL2 respectively. Aside from Sideroff, i think the only other realistic option is Ciampini. Also Champs is around the same age as both Tansey & Saucerman, whereas Sideroff is still only 26. Know that doesn't necessarily mean much, but some people tend to bond with similar age groups better.ginger wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 11:36 amSaucerman is definitely the guy he mentioned re: redhead. Hadn't realised Kristoffer and Herr had signed elsewhere. Not looked at Sideroff so will have a lookteeLIST wrote: ↑Wed Jun 14, 2023 12:03 pmYeah i agree, do think there was some smoke to the second guy as he did say core of "new" guys.
