We dominated 90% of that game.
Why did they play Kozun in goal instead of Bowns ?
They have a mountain to climb on the 14th now, I can't see Greenfield letting more than 4 by him no matter how we play.

Thanks Mark. I’ll follow his reports from now on.mark wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 10:06 pmPeter Spencer is far more reliable for game updates.steeler pete wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 7:54 pmWhat’s up? No updates on twitter, viaplay showing nhl highlights. Is the game on tonight?
I’ve got to admit I wasn’t expecting that result but well done to the guys. I can’t help but feel one or both of the returning players have been missed and I hope Whistle will have taken a confidence boost from that. In fact the whole team need to take a chance more and not overplay it.
When we lose it's not usually by much.
Our worst defeats this season are 1 - 3 to Cardiff in the first game and 6 - 4 to Manchester when our back up was in goal.
We certainly make hard work of some games, like Saturday against Cardiff, but nobody has blown us away yet.
I know we've blown a 4 goal lead before in the CC against Cardiff, but I'd say this is a much better Steelers team than that one and Cardiff are much poorer.
Stranger things have certainly happened, but we're in a very strong position after last night.

I watched warm up, Bowns came out onto the ice and ended up on his backside as he skated towards the goal, spun around a few times.mark wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 10:58 pmThey have said Bowns was injured during warm upekt wrote: ↑Wed Dec 07, 2022 10:46 pmHe might "Hate the Sheffield Steelers" but, just for tonight, I love the Cardiff Devils.

Amazingly that was the first time I've seen Mosey play. Took his goal well and he and Allen made a difference.
I was worried when I saw there no Connolly or Raska, but the right choices in the end.
One for Dowd to remember for his 700th - thought he was going to score right at the end of the 3rd.

Much more like it! Great to see Allen and Mosey back and some PP goals
Whistle and Greenfield obvious standouts but every line looked good - I've always liked Dowd at center and he's always at his best battling hard and playing feisty, good to see him take on Brittain who had somewhat of a size advantage
Wasn't surprised to see Raska and Connolly as the healthy scratches to be honest.
Hopefully we use this game as a template as we were the dominant team for the most part, a good lead taking into the second game but take nothing for granted, Cardiff will come out swinging early next week, I feel more confident than usual with this Steelers team going into Cardiff - we seem to have done well there under Fox (as have they in our rink!)

Absolute fantastic win against a very good Cardiff team, full credit to the players for bouncing back after a 1 point weekend.
Top marks to Brandon Whistle & Matt Greenfield, a huge confidence building win.
Onto this weekend now, get those 4 points and bring them back from Scotland & keep the pressure on Guildford.

note of caution in 2018 some may remember we beat Cardiff 6-2 in a home CC semi but went on to get trounced 7-1 down there. But surely it cannot happen again can it?

Nice to hear that not only did we win but appeared to play well for 60 minutes. I'm just disappointed that we can manage this performance for a cup game whereas our overall league performances have been pretty poor (at home).
Hopefully we can push on from here playing hard, fast for 60 minutes in league action.
Glad to hear that Brandon notched a couple and was MOM. The fourth line tends to be a bit of a bits and pieces line following the top three lines being adjusted with no real plan and identity (to my eyes anyway) .
Last thing I want is for us to become a Panthers like club and win cups every few years and not the more important play offs or even the main one of the league.
