I've seen that and a few people think it might be a scam. My suggestion would be hold off until we get official confirmation that it is legit, I'd hate to see anyone scammed.

This is the page that is giving most people the feeling it's a scam of some sort including me..

No way you should ever confirm via a banking app as £0.00 and then let the third party app confirm it's own amount later... It's got scam wrote all over it... Image

I am not verifying any amount via my bank app as 0.00 that then can be changed to what they want afterwards.
I am no expert in these things but Surley that's a massive red flag.

Mel and I have both said we would donate, if we had chance.. and he needs it, but there is no way i am authorising a blank amount via my banking app...

I hope it's legit I really do.. But judging by the fact it only has 90+ pledges the last time I looked, then others are seeing the same issue, also it's wanting to raise 300k!

If you did an officially sanctioned special one off 50/50 at the arena for instance, at say £10 a ticket imagine the funds that could raise... Image

Am I right in thinking he has not been charged with anything yet so he won't need legal fees yet?

Assistance needed for legal costs regarding allegation of Manslaughter

My name is Matthew Petgrave and I am seeking help to cover some of my legal costs following an ice hockey accident in 2023.

My name is Matthew Petgrave, and I’ve been a professional ice hockey player for the past seven years, most recently with the EIHL's Sheffield Steelers. Hockey has been my lifelong passion, and I consider it a great privilege to have built a career in the sport.

On October 28, 2023, I was involved in a tragic accident that resulted in the passing of fellow ice hockey player Adam Johnson.

There is an ongoing police investigation and the legal process has been long and challenging.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who has supported me, including my teammates, fellow players, and league personnel, who have stood by me from the beginning and continue to do so. Your support has been invaluable to me and my family during this incredibly difficult time.

Initially, I had the benefit of Insurance Cover, but through no fault of my own, this has been halted. Additionally, the time and costs involved in the legal investigation and potential court proceedings are difficult for me to cover on a privately funded basis. This is especially challenging because my UK Visa has expired, preventing me from working as a professional ice hockey player while I continue to need legal assistance.

I am seeking help to cover some of my legal costs whilst I am subject to Police bail, as well as additional costs if the matter proceeds to criminal court. Any remaining funds will be donated to initiatives that promote safety in hockey.

Thank you,

Matthew, Chloe, and the Petgrave Family

Why if this is true have the club or league not been backing him with the costs? Absolutely disgusting if that is the case.

Aiming for 300.000k as well. That's disgusting amount of money if it's owed to legal teams..

I find the whole situation disgraceful and an embarrassment to this country.

13 months in they must have enough evidence by now to either roll the dice and take it to trial or accept it's not clear enough cut to pursue any further.

I can only assume nobody is willing to make a decision one way or the other.

It's not fair on Petgrave who is effectively a prisoner in this country or on Johnson's family who will want closure one way or the other.

It really could do with a national newspaper journalist taking this up and highlighting what's going on (or not going on as the case seems to be).
