So with last night's win, Fox now has the most wins by any coach in Steelers history, passing Dampier.
Is he our greatest ever coach?

No, Blaiser is IMO.
Fox needs to win another 5 trophies to catch Blaiser. Who managed 9 trophies in 4 seasons.
Blasier’s hockey was fast, physical, skillful and most importantly for me entertaining. There weren’t many do not watch games when Blaiser was in charge for me.

To be fair, the ISL was great standard top to bottom, so games were generally all decent across the league.smbmetal wrote: ↑Sun Nov 24, 2024 10:06 amNo, Blaiser is IMO.

Probably worth mentioning though that blaiser had 4 trophies per season to have a shot at though, so a bit different to the standard 3 on offer now. But I'd probably agree the Blaiser still just pips it.
Blaiser would be top of my list, but Fox is making a strong case for 2nd.
Blaiser succeeded with an awful owner who wouldn't fully back him.
Fox has had an excellent owner who has given him the tools to do the job. I don't buy the argument that we spend more than anybody else, but I think we're certainly up there with the likes of Cardiff and Belfast. The difference last season was that Fox recruited better than the others, which he deserves a lot of praise for.

Like any profession, a coach can only really be compared to his peers at the conclusion of his tenure. The next couple of years will define his status in the eyes of the fans. I hope he has continued success and makes his claim as our number one coach a formality.

Blaiser had to work with owners who were not supportive, the business was in a very unstable state and to get that level of performance was down to his strength of personality as well as his work ethic and skill levels, it's likely Fox wouldn't have hung around under the same circumstances, and to be honest I wouldn't blame him for it. Hockey has changed since then, maybe Blaiser would not have been as successful now using the same methods, we'll never know.
Blaisdell.. best in his era without a doubt. In 5 years there were four league championships and three playoff championships, please check, my memory could be wrong.
Fox.. A slower start but impossible to argue with a grand slam and the CHL performances, if we can win for multiple years then yes, he's up there with Blaiser but even if not he's clearly amongst the very best coaches we've had.
The Steelers and British ice hockey are very different beasts now than back then so fair comparison isn't easy, both deserve respect for what they have achieved.

Simms says a lot of things, but much of it is only useful as fertiliser. I look after about 4 hectares* of sports ground, I could have spread it an inch deep and still had some spare for the gardens with that particular statement.
*9 acres in old money*
I think you’re being harsh on fertiliser there Mark
