I must admit sometimes I’m terrible at interpreting stats, but his +/- over the past couple of seasons seem questionable and PIM seems high for an offensive forward.

+/- is the worst stat in isolation. It only starts adding value when you know other things like TOI, whether they are PP or PK guys, Corsi stats etc. when on a PK, you can only get a +, since no minus for conceding. On the flip side, PP time can only earn a minus since no plus awarded even if you score.
Think he's more 2nd line, or as he's a centre could play with Watling to take some face-off duties. He's apparently a quick skater, so would compliment Watling and Juusola well.
I wouldn't read too much in to his stats in Slovakia this year. Player experiences there from interviews seem to range from fine to nightmare. He's one of the top scorers with 6 points - I'm guessing he's got very little support, and no surprises the imports seemed to have mostly left all at the same time. Gut feel says it was not a good situation.
His last ECHL season was basically a ppg, at a young age (he's only 24 now). That usually translates pretty well over here, and he was getting AHL games as well.
Nothing ever certain, but he's not got dissimilar stats to a certain Mr Balmas. As ever, we'll soon find out, but got a feeling that he'll be wanting to make an impression as it probably means either a contract here, or possibly a deal somewhere slightly higher reputation (ICEHL?)
I’m sure Foxy has done his job on this. I can see the concerns about stats, but he’s played in good leagues and is still young. Hopefully he will want to make his mark. Surely this is better than a fading oldie?

Whilst Mingoia was older, I wouldn't say fading really. Still looks like he has a lot to his game, but I'm not unhappy with Golod in the slightest. He's 24, has better ppg average in the Coast and AHL than Balmas, and has a solid year in the Allsvenskan.
