Excellent suggestion, Mark. I write crime mystery novels. There are 6 published so far. I use Grammarly just to check there isn’t something I’ve missed. It is AI based, so sometimes comes up with stylistic suggestions an experienced novelist would reject. However it is excellent at picking out the sort of problems that seem to bedevil Steelers output. Of course, it won’t rectify errors of inconsistent information. For example the recent one of listing a game as at home but incorrectly reversing the away and home team in the heading. Nothing beats a human being for such things. They are commonplace in Steelers output. For goodness sake, it needs reading before printing.

I did a quick survey tonight of the programme and scanned a couple of pages. There were 3 typos and 17 punctuation mistakes. I’m afraid the latter are all too common these days. The writer obviously only has a passing acquaintance with the comma. It might be an idea to read Eats, Shoots and Leaves. It explains it all in a simple fashion. You don’t have to be brainy to understand these things. Just do the small amount of work that your readers deserve. So much has now improved at Steelers, this remains to be improved to adequate standards.
I am terrible at writing and where I work, if I have to send anything out publicly or to the workforce, I have someone check my article(s). Can't type for toffee meBryan wrote: ↑Wed Oct 30, 2024 11:48 pmI did a quick survey tonight of the programme and scanned a couple of pages. There were 3 typos and 17 punctuation mistakes. Not everyone is skilled at writing for public consumption, fair enough, not everyone has the skills to be a mathematician or a chemist or an engineer etc. But if you find yourself in a position where you are writing for your organisation, then as you have done you get your work checked by someone who does have those skills, so that the image you portray of your organisation is one of a professional approach to your public presence.
But that means relinquishing control to someone else, and as we have seen many times before the ego that is "Steelers Media" will not allow it to happen.
And if anyone thinks I am campaigning to have that job for myself, think again. I would not work for a company that tolerates the behaviour demonstrated by the current post holder, and as I'm happily retired I don't have to prioritise making a living over my own ethical standards, nor do I wish to engage in daily office warfare, been there, done that, got the medals, got out alive, not going back.
And to be honest I'm too busy managing and maintaining a multi-sport facility on behalf of a charitable organisation.
