Interesting rule for the minor penalty rule. That might take some adjusting to. Wonder if the EIHL will eventually follow?

Some significant rule changes are being put in place for the power play and penalty kill. The following three innovative rule changes will apply to CHL games, which will change the game and add an extra layer of excitement but not undermine credibility.

- A team that caused a minor penalty will remain shorthanded even if the opposing team scores a goal, ensuring a full two minutes of power-play time.
- A minor penalty will be served even if a goal is scored while a delayed penalty is pending.
- If a shorthanded team scores, the minor penalty against will end.

Get what they are trying to do, but doubt it will catch on.

Creates a situation where embellishment is going to be even more widespread - since advantage of going on a PP would be even greater. The ending a penalty if scoring shorthanded won't work with the counter being that PP doesn't end if the non penalised team scores. Will not create more aggressive penalty kills as danger is you get scored on multiple times during 1 minor penalty.

Apparently Belfast and Cardiff trailed those rules in the recent exhibition games.

I've always thought if you score short-handed the penalised player's penalty should end, giving the short-handed team an incentive to score.

I will be interesting to see how the new penalty rules works in the CHL games. I personally think it will lead to yet more sterilisation of the game, as teams will be scared stiff to take a minor penalty.

Don't think any of them work well. PP gives a good opportunity to get an advantage from the opponent commiting a minor penalty. Major penalties don't end on goals already and that feels right given the difference between what constitutes minors and majors.

In terms of team scoring SH to end the penalty, I don't agree. Your team committed a breach of the rules, punishment is 2 min penalty unless other team scores during that period. Again, seems reasonable.

I get trying to give teams an incentive to score SH, but I really think they are looking in the wrong area to try and improve the game.

These new rules were only implemented so there would be more goals scored, to the CHL stakeholders mor goals equals more money. If we do end up using them we might as well have another "innovative" rule change, and have penalty shots taken by mascots (courtesy of a genius facebook user).
