What a superb and amazing captain. I don't believe the Steelers or even the EIHL will see as long a serving or a successful a captain as Jono.

Looking forward to seeing the number 20 shirt hanging from the rafters (sorry concourse).

Lets hope we can manage to win him a trophy so he can bow out on a high.

An amazing servant of the team and an all round good guy. He will be a hard act to follow. We wish him every success in his new career. :thumb:

An incredible career at the top level in this Country. You could never doubt his commitment, work ethic and fitness. The fact that year after year he was chosen to be club captain tells you everything about the respect in which he was held by his team mates. A genuine Steelers legend.

As a Flyers fan it will be weird to see us play Steelers with Phillips not in the line up. He has been some servant to both the Steelers and team GB. All the best to him in his retirement!

I actually think I would swap an in his prime Jono for Brent Bobyck in the grand slam side. Jono is probably one of the best penalty killers I've ever seen in the UK.

Dowd I guess would be his natural successor for the Steelers new captain?

Well, it had to happen sooner or later, but it will be strange for him not to be on the team next season. I can see him continuing to play in some capacity, maybe teaming up with Hewey again. I certainly hope so

A fantastic servant to the club and someone who definitely deserves having his jersey raised into the rafters.

The cynic in me applauses the club for posting this news out to stop the comments on what was widely viewed as another lackluster performance but we all knew this day would come eventually unfortunately. I thought he may step into a coaching role or at least some sort of ambassador role for the club but nice to see him go into the education sector once he retires as per the yorkshire post article.

There's a saying that the only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

I would suggest Jonathan Phillips is a perfect example of this. He's certainly not one of the most skilled players we've ever had, but what a fantastic example of what you can achieve if you work hard.

I think it's probably the right time to retire, but what a true Steelers legend he has become.

I'm sure there will be a fitting tribute at his last Steelers game and also a league wide tribute at the playoff weekend.

We salute you sir.

Regards
