Should we be worried about this?

The Arena is already underused, and I can see this new venue being A. unsuitable for hockey B. eventually seen by SCC as a replacement for the Utilita. Especially as it ticks boxes for the green types by banishing travel there by anything on 4 wheels (full disclosure, I travel to the Arena by public transport).
It is claimed that our home would be used for sport more exclusively, but I’m dubious. I have concern that maybe 5-10 years down the line we end up homeless, much akin to how the Eagles were treated with Don Valley. The problem there is that small/medium sized rugby venues are easier to come by than elite standard ice.

They've been banging this drum for years and this particular one since March, its all woulda shoulda, coulda drivel..
Its all pie in the sky and years off in the current climate even if there was a determination to complete it...
No I put this down to, believe it once you see it with your own eyes and even then it wouldn't mean a great deal to us when the Arena would be desperate to keep its main tenant...

Think Rother Valley was one of the last rumours.
I agree it’s all pipe dreams.
I would say though and I’ve mentioned this before, I do worry about the long term future of the arena. Just from a concert point of view, bands that were regular visitors seem to skip the arena now and go to Leeds arena instead.
The arena has had a few failed bids like for the Eurovision and others events. Wasn’t one because there wasn’t any proper shower facilities when we bid for the GB games or host the Continental cup?
Plus Kelman says there’s no where to stay near it either

I would say it is more likely to impact on City Hall.
Most of the turns at Sheffield want the bigger crowds/capacity that the arena has.

The acoustics in the City Hall are far superior ( IMHO ) than the Arena.

Sheffield Arena is THE worst venue I've ever been in for sound acoustics for concerts. Perhaps that's another reason why bands are skipping it and going to Leeds instead.

It does depend where you sit, when I saw Peter Gabriel we had excellent seats close to the stage and the sound was fine, sit further away and you start to get that tin shed feeling, at the City Hall I've never heard a bad concert, my experience of Leeds is limited to one concert but it did sound excellent, but it was Jean-Michel Jarre ....

Leeds Arena is much better for concerts. Sound is excellent and all seats face the stage

I have to confess to liking the Leeds Arena for gigs. I get the impression bands like it too. The City Hall is great. Sheffield Arena is okay and far superior in terms of acoustics than Nottingham. That's not me just stoking up rivalry, it really is bad.
Jean Michel Jarre would probably sound great in a public lavatory if truth be told!

I really should get better at replying to stuff - thanks for the reassurance and replies. I saw the article and went straight to - no more hockey arena panic mode
Never been to Leeds Arena but it looks to be a fantastic concert-oriented venue.
