There was a Sheffield Star thing about the health of Brendan Connolly and Liam Kirk. I was wondering if anyone thinks Kirk might actually make the NHL. So not too long ago (I can't for th life of me remember when) he was picked by Arizona (ugh) in the draft, he was dumped in the Roadrunners and spent much of last season injured. We all hopefully know about Brendan Perlini, Brett's brother, God knows where he's going now (UFA isn't he), does anyone suppose Kirk is at that level? Any thoughts...

I’d hardly call icing for an AHL team being ‘dumped’.

Realistically, I don't see Kirk making the NHL. He's a British generational talent, and i'm a huge fan, but realistically i don't see it. He could play in the AHL, have a good year or two and then come back to Europe and play in Switzerland or something.
With that said.. he has a chance. Play well, produce and reap the benefit that he's in with quite a poor organisation in the Coyotes, who could give him a shot.

I put it that way because the COYOTES didn't see him as NHL level. I don't have anything against the AHL, it's a brilliant second tier league. Kirk is one of our best players so it gets me a little grumpy when nobody sees him as a valuable asset.Keith Sheppard wrote: ↑Sat Aug 20, 2022 11:24 pmI’d hardly call icing for an AHL team being ‘dumped’.![]()

If he hadn’t got injured and kept putting up the points like he did in his first 8 games at the Roadrunners, he may have got a call to the Coyotes. Especially likely if one of their forwards got an injury.
All ifs and buts but that’s still his hope. I read an article on the Roadrunner's web pages from 3 Jun this year and he says he stayed around the team and Phoenix to rehab as he wanted to keep contact and build relationships with his team mates. He still seems quite ambitious.

Hopefully he’ll get a good run at it this season and who knows?

Well I wish him congratulations with his engagement and hope he makes his country EVEN MORE proud of him. You raise brilliant points and I'm going to keep a close eye on his career (if he does make it and he comes against the Maple Leafs I won't be with him, every other time I will be with him). I guess it's just a matter of patience and seeing what pieces fall into what places.steeler pete wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 3:08 pmIf he hadn’t got injured and kept putting up the points like he did in his first 8 games at the Roadrunners, he may have got a call to the Coyotes. He’s scored 1+1 in the Roadrunners’ first preseason game.
I think if he can get the form he had before his injury last year back and stay fit, he will get his chance this year.
Totes look to be struggling preseason and will look to bring fresh talent in.
