Captain Jono Phillips has signed a new 1 year deal with the club- he has played over 1,000 EIHL & played 971 of those games in Orange.
What a fantastic servant this man has been to our club over the years.
Welcome home Captain.

Excellent signing, very dependable and age is no issue with how he looks after himself.
I think he’s the last man standing from the Super League era.

That's great news, i have actual footage of him enjoying his off season too. https://media.giphy.com/media/3ohjUYvWZ ... /giphy.gif

Key re-signing for us - the leader and heartbeat of the club, doesn't appear to be slowing down

I thought he had started to slow down and took fewer shifts and in the downbeat mood of our end of season I thought maybe it was time for him to maybe think about coaching or something of the sort. At the time I wasn't aware he'd had such a serious chest injury and knowing that I can see now that his dip in fitness (as I saw it) is completely understandable.JoeySlats#13 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 10, 2022 2:24 pmKey re-signing for us - the leader and heartbeat of the club, doesn't appear to be slowing down
Having seen him in the World Championships I think with a summer off competing and more time to properly heal I look forward to seeing him at his best again.

Phillips has been a fantastic servant for the Steelers, but I was of the opinion that maybe last season Old Father Time was starting to catch up with him.
Initially I wouldn't have wanted us to re-sign him, but when the bench sizes were increased it really became a no brainer.
I must confess I didn't know about the injuries and perhaps they explain why he was near the bottom of our +/-. It just shows the character of the man to soldier on like he did.
Not our most talented player, but I would suggest only Shudra is more worthy of a shirt retirement.
Was Phillips first introduced to the Steelers supporters at the cinema across the road? I remember being in attendance and a big fuss was made about our new Brit signing, but not sure if that was Phillips or Sample?

I agree, Jono's shirt should certainly be hanging in the concourse when he does finally hang them up.Doom wrote: ↑Sat Jun 11, 2022 5:43 amPhillips has been a fantastic servant for the Steelers, but I was of the opinion that maybe last season Old Father Time was starting to catch up with him.

I personally feel we have some up there that shouldn't be retired but should be honoured via some type of honours board etc.

I believe it was one of Matsos first signings. Indeed it was at the cinema, interestingly I think that was one of the best shirt launch we had.
