Whilst this looks good news, I treat this statement with caution until the finer details are understood.

If this is just loans, I’m not sure if I was an owner I would want to be getting into further debt.

I am also hoping it doesn't result in some thrown together transient style short backstop league setup...
I am missing hockey terribly and really cant wait till I can walk back into the arena again to watch the Steelers play.

Number one priority for me it has to be above all safe and Covid secure and secondly a decent standard of Hockey with a team we can be proud of and the fans need understanding of the league structure.

That now is best suited to be a proper and full return to a full 2021 season in August/September once the vaccine and other measures have near as dam it beat this virus! Thats my take on it anyway!

The latest statement from the EIHL re- funding and getting a product on the ice in 2021

Following last week’s announcement by the DCMS of a ‘Winter Survival Package’ in which the Elite League was included, we’d like to update our fans with the latest information we have received. After further discussions with Sport England and DCMS, we have been advised that the funding allocated last week relates to teams in England only, with separate funds made available to the devolved authorities under the Barnett formula.

League chairman Tony Smith explained where this puts things as of now: “We are not losing sight of the fact that we applied for government help as one Elite League across four nations. While the funding that covers England is extremely welcome, our next steps are to try to secure similar possibilities for the remaining five teams (Belfast Giants, Cardiff Devils, Dundee Stars, Fife Flyers & Glasgow Clan).
“Until we know more, there is no guarantee that these nations will allocate funding for ice hockey. We are calling on the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to assess the options available to all teams in their regions as soon as possible. The EIHL will do everything it can to assist these teams in requesting funding from their devolved administrations, and take the lead in the process where required.”

He continued: “What we do also know now is that the funding is only available to us if we put an Elite League level product on the ice, and that it is not a ‘blank cheque’ – everything in England will need to be applied for via Sport England to ensure funds requested are appropriate and proportionate to putting a product on the ice. There are a lot of different aspects that we will continue to look at over the next few days and weeks, when we have a clearer picture of how things stand across all parts of the UK we will keep our fans updated. We’re still some way from being able to guarantee something might happen in early 2021, and again I’d ask for everyone’s patience while we continue to find out more information.”

EIHL Rumours has tweeted that the May be some sort of season with the 5 English Teams plus Cardiff. Belfast and the Scottish teams sitting out. Cardiff getting their funding from an alternative source.

Are the players currently elsewhere on loan or contracted to see out the season with their current clubs?

I cant say it its something that fills me with any kind of anticipation or joy especially if they are intending opening up to fans attending agian.. At the moment my mind is and would be fully on staying alive and being able to walk back into the arena in August/September..
Ok I get where there is the obvious possibility of this 5 team mini league being a streaming league, but I really am not to bothered and dont see it being something I would buy into for a whole mini season?

I like my hockey live and competitive and I really only see this working if the stream is priced at a very temping price, say a £5 a game. Sorry but for me I want to concentrate on getting to a new 2021 season safe and ready to go again in September..

Surely as the mini-league is being paid for by the good old British tax payer the streams will be free? It's a great opportunity for some to be on the BBC maybe?

We Certainly wont be paying £15 a game for a stream. hopefully the EIHL will have learned from not even the Premier league could get away with it being that expensive.

I can't see the arena being open to fans until at least Easter. So I'd guess we would have to stream if we wanted to watch the games. I would be surprised if the government loans covered all the costs for all clubs, so I'd expect a charge for streaming as running a 5/6 team league still won't be cheap for clubs I'm sure.

My biggest concern would be the quality of hockey on show.

If the EIHL has accepted the government funding, does that then force them to play I wonder? I would have been happy to start a new season in September next year as you pointed out, hopefully fans would be allowed in then.
