The completed squad - Your verdict

This one strikes me as a bit of a gamble and our record in that department last season wasn't great:
Connolly - Fail
Neumann - Success
Mitchell - Fail
Raska - Fail
If we've also signed Juusola I'd put that down as another risk.
Let's hope more of them pay off next season.

Depends on the injury. There are many that will keep you out for a while but present little risk of reoccurrence after healing.
Signed in bottom 6 role which we need, I'm less concerned - if he puts up good numbers then great, if it's average production and good two way play then great. If you don't get either I suspect we'll replace. Pretty much how most teams will see their recruitment of those roles.
I do wonder what people expect sometimes from bottom 6 forwards - seems some expect us to sign PPG ECHLers under 30. Just doesn't happen for the most part.
In terms of numbers, based on his time in the ECHL I think I'll put Kielly down for 15 goals.
If you look at his Usports numbers they are quite impressive and would equate to nearer 25 goals, but that was a few years ago. Hopefully he's one of those players who adapts to our league.
If you look back at Piccinich's numbers they were less than impressive before he joined Belfast, but he adapted to our league superbly.....That's down to outstanding recruitment.

Or a bit of good luck - which is my point. If these types of signings perform above previous stats suggest then it's outstanding recruitment, if they perform about where perceived they're not good enough (unless won trophies), and anything slightly under then the coach is an awful recruiter.
Just not quite true - every player is a risk to some extent. Players have come here who should be top points scorers and struggle - Angeli at Belfast. Does it make Keefe a bad recruiter?

I don’t think anyone expects PPG echlers for a bottom 6 role, especially since we struggle to recruit these for our top line, however if other clubs (Belfast) are recruiting players that are capable of scoring +20 goals at ECHL across three lines I’d expect our club to recruit similar quality.
He doesn’t look a bad signing by any means but will he be good enough collectively to out perform Belfast and Cardiffs forwards at the moment I don’t think so.

That's kind of my point though - you say he doesn't look a bad signing, but then immediately question whether good enough. Hence my point about what people seem to want.

Take a look through not many at a ppg but all capable of scoring above 20 goals at either echl level or in our league

Apart from Sato, who's stats are nowhere near suggesting that.House_of_Steel wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 12:21 pmhttps://www.eliteprospects.com/team/203/belfast-giants

Oliver Cooper looks very similar to Kielly (when look at season before last seeing as Kielly injured).
Nazarin looks like he could, but could finish slightly under.
The big plus points for me on Belfast's roster is picking up Tedesco and Barriga as both proven over here. Add them to Lake and M. Cooper and McLeod and they've got 5 I would definitely expect over 20.
However, I think our D is stronger overall (assuming Saucerman is the final D).
We still have 2 top 6 forwards to announce. Ciampini, Neumann, Vallerand and Dowd I would expect 20+ from. Until we see the final forward group, I don't think we are miles behind at all.
