Glad they’re managing his minutes though, that was his first competitive hockey since the 23rd February 2020 fixture between HC Slovan Bratislava & HKM Zvolen in the Slovakian Extraliga.
Always going to take time for him to get sharp, that’s why I was surprised it took us so long to add someone like Stojanovič.

Managing his return carefully is more likely to get the best out of him, I have no idea if there is anything more to it than being just a precaution. Potentially he is capable of being the best in the league and helping us lift trophies, It also helps reinforce the perception that players get properly looked after and that helps with player loyalty and future recruitment.

One advantage of his substantial frame is that he doesn't leave much of the goal to shoot at. Must be quite intimidating to opposition forwards. I did wonder on Saturday if his speed side to side of the goal was as fast as some of our other better keepers.

Thought he looked good after the first 2 goals (which didn't look like he could do much about) on Saturday.
Fox confirmed Rok is going nowhere and we will be rotating the 2 of them (Rok and Barry) in the coming weeks with us having a busy schedule and then working towards one of them becoming the regular starter after that period!
A good move for all to be honest!

Makes sense to me. Especially while Barry is still getting fit.
Whilst I prefer an out and out number 1 goalie we’re not really in that position so it’s a good job by Fox to get another decent goalie in to share duties.
The only downside of course is that the GB goalies get even less of a chance.

Agreed - as someone pointed out on Twitter I believe, could be beneficial to have both this season and try to re-sign Rok for next year and let Churchfield and/or Warburton start the CC games - would be a huge advantage to have one or both of those as potential starting netminders week in week out somewhere down the line, I guess it's a question of will they get to that level and if so when and how?smbmetal wrote: ↑Mon Oct 18, 2021 3:18 pmMakes sense to me. I think we missed the boat on Brust when Fox chased him for 19/20. He posted great numbers in Slovakia that year.
Now at 38, having not iced since February 2020 before his first appearance for us. That’s a long time for a netminder of that age, especially combined with the pandemic during which I believe he mentioned he lost his mother. Rinks closed to everyone so no chance to stay sharp with fellow pros during that time.
