I do think a coach who knows the league is essential to success? we have so many different types of rinks in this country, players need time to adjust so a coach who has been there and done that would be perfect IMO.
I think Fox will stay till the PO and then TS will look elsewhere!
I would like a more North American type team with more grit and determination, speed yes but more savvy players! flare players are good for entertainment value but just don't commit game in game out, where as Belfast have a team of committed players who know how to play and win in all situations, just like we always did in past seasons.
I can't see us making the playoffs again and that would be a deal braker for TS.

I’d agree, however I don’t think Tony will make a change until his current business model is threatened.lovedenisvial wrote: ↑Sun Mar 12, 2023 10:52 amI do think a coach who knows the league is essential to success? we have so many different types of rinks in this country, players need time to adjust so a coach who has been there and done that would be perfect IMO.

In Tony’s own words, the club is run first and foremost as a business to make money. I don’t think he’ll make a coaching change until the money stops coming in.
I have now stopped attending games, as the hockey is a bad as it was when PT was in charge.

Simon is the only coach in EIHL history who won the league without spending at least a season in it first.Doom wrote:I would suggest that history shows that all the successful coaches in our league were previously players in the league.....Blaiser, Lord, Matsos, Keefe, Christiansen, Adey etc.
The only successful coach I can think of who didn't previously play was Ben Simon and he had his team recruited by Matsos.
I think to be successful in our league:
1. You need to know the league and type of style It takes to be successful and
2. You need good contacts, especially in North America.
I'm guessing Keefe and/or Thornton have very good contacts in North America.
I'm not sure which current/ex players in our league are coaching material, but if we do make a change I think history suggests this is the route to go down.....maybe Adey?

Won't happen while Smith's business plan works. Watch out for an extensive range of 3rd in the league merchandise, the *** ADMIN EDITED***will snap it up.

Its a Dam Long trip back from Belfast after a 8-2 drumming, I would think Fox may have some explaining to do in the owners office!
After his last sit down with Tony wasn't he supposed to have given certain assurances?

I have consistently stated that a coach has to be judged on results over a season, making decisions after a couple of poor games is as bad as making them after a run of good games, especially when your main challengers don't appear very often in that run. Right now it has that inevitable feeling about it, should we be fortunate enough to win the playoffs it will only mask what has been a disappointing season, not solely on results but also in a lack of compete in most of the big games. It's hard to make a reasonable defence of Coach Fox, he's had both time and money, not a luxury granted to everyone we've had, and yet I'm not sure we have moved forward save for finding a brilliant netminder. If we retain him for next year it may cause another Paul Thompson final season scenario where he'd lost the confidence of a large section of the supporters and the club spent more time fighting internal battles with the fans than external ones against our opponents, I'd suggest we don't want to go through that again. Mr Fox should be thanked for his efforts and allowed to move on and allow the club to appoint a new coach for next season, I really like the guy but results are what they are.
