From steelers point of view a good night, 4 goals ,,shutout, manager happy. From a spectators point of view, a very poor clan display, a boring game to watch with no intensity to see anywhere. The league this year is very poor throughout and getting softer and less intense in games other than odd match here and there. Not good when teams getting beat 7-0,,, 4-0 etc due to quality not being there and as majority of past seasons same 3/4 teams will win silverware and other teams there to make up the numbers. But at least we do have ice hockey to see in this country so thats a positive,,,,
Yeah it’s a shame. I’ve not been to the arena now for over a year. For me, it’s just not worth the money. Least I can still watch the live games via the streams, which are easily the best in the league, especially when Mr Shudra senior provides the co-commentary.
The EIHL quality this season is the worst I’ve seen since it’s formation.
Agree,,, and it is a shame, been going now for nearly 30 year with season ticket, but last several years have struggled to keep going,,, so maybe now will think about just watching a stream as and when instead. Fantastic sport but it has just changed too much for me over the years, Too bland and just dont get the buzz anymore and now cannot justify season ticket in hope of a great game now and then,,,
I think it is all down to that intensity factor. Been going since 1993, less a 5/10 year hiatus somewhere in the middle. Started taking the kids year or so before the grand slam and throughout and they were absolutely loving it. This last year we’ve been probably 5/6 times plus a few of the streams and it pains me they’re kind of losing interest a bit, which for a family of four costs us around £80/90 a visit with some refreshments.
I wonder with the league generally just how much the tragedy with Adam Johnson has put a lot of players off even considering the UK? Could have happened anywhere of course, but as a player with a lot of choice/options on the table, unless you have a strong pull, or some connection you can talk it over with - my guess is a lot of players would just say “forget that, where else is there?”. I think it will take a good few years yet before the full effects of this don’t affect players decisions as it’s still relatively fresh in minds, it’s got to affect players decisions outside the EIHL sphere when considering moves. I know it’s an NHL player but I remember at least one “bush league” comment directed towards EIHL, hopefully the CHL results helped this perception. I’m sure we’ve all been in positions where faced with a few options on employment, some are dismissed very quickly due to perceptions held.
Just a thought re general recruiting for teams, wonder if anyone has any thoughts on this.
Cheers
