Manchester sign gritty role forward Ben Wilson.

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/39625/ben-wilson

The 5”10 Canadian, who can play any out skaters position, joins from Romanian Erste Liga side ASC Corona Brasov.

The 30 year old is a former ECHL captain who is a regular in the penalty box and often fights when required against guys of a similar weight class. He’ll be physical.

His ECHL points output is poor though with less than 0.2 PPG across his 462 ECHL appearances with the Allen Americans, Denver Cutthroats & Kalamazoo Wings.

He has 648 PIMs in his ECHL career.

He also had 40 AHL games with the Lake Erie Monsters & Syracuse Crunch.

There seems to be a few teams employing gentlemen that aren't afraid to drop the gloves in their rosters. Is this a role that we see returning to our teams? Or, is this a "player type" that certain teams are bringing in to get bums on seats as we all know, a good fighter is a great marketing asset.

Depends what their instructions are I guess, no use signing a good fighter if he’s not up to the EIHL level defensively so we’ll have to see.

Also in Europe guys like Sol will fight much less as there’s no pressure to keep in the side or make the AHL. Will just be reactionary stuff to hits etc & even then guys won’t fight him outside the likes of Mark Louis.

I'd have certainly been pleased if he'd signed for us. I would imagine he'll be good at clearing the front of the net.

I'm not sure in the current climate he'll have many to fight aside from Louis and Springer. Although if he is indeed a Sheriff about town, one or two might think twice about taking any liberties. :Smiled:
