Here's a test for Mr Fox from an injury point of view.

These type of injury crisis define your coaching tenure of managing to keep winning when short benched. We did very well last season with not many injuries, but now the garden isn't so rosy.

Who remembers Mr Blaisdell lacing up the skates when we only had 11 skaters to win in Newcastle?

http://www.steelersstats.co.uk/steelers_history.htm

"A flu bug dramatically depleted Sheffield Steelers ranks, and forces coach Mike Blaisdell out of retirement. Only seven out of 18 players were able to practise last night, after complaints of fever and diarrhoea. Blaisdell was quickly registered and insured and wears the number 14 shirt. They finished up winning in Newcastle 5-4 with just eleven skaters"

We still managed 19 skaters against Dundee which is still one more than they managed.

I remember that night ! Blaiser looked a tad overweight but his hockey brain was still there . He played in defence and did well. They were all exhausted at the end and I remember them all sat down around the boards at MOM time . They hadn't got the energy left to even stand up! Great result though.

For me, Blaiser is head and shoulders above Foxy - as it stands. That may change, of course but, for now, Blaiser is my main man

Well if you want to rate a total management of the club on and off the ice, the current era tops it all by a mile. The combination of Fox and Smith is unbeatable. Remember too that Smith kept faith with Fox when some, even on her, were calling for a change of coach. Great combo. Long may it continue.

Absolutely! There’s no contest there. Tony Smith has been the greatest owner the Steelers has and may ever have. The success and stability Tony has brought to the club cannot be over stated. Fox also deserves huge credit for how he managed the tragic incident of last season too.

But……this also shows how big an amazing job Blaiser did continuing to bring success after success despite the off ice issues. Imagine what he could have done with Tony Smith as the owner.

I doubt Fox or any other coach would have even put up with what Blaiser had to deal with, let alone bring further trophy success.

I agree that taking the club in its entirety, it must be the best we've ever had

Yes. For me Blaiser a great Motivational coach, Foxy a more professional one. Both had done amazing things here.

Well losing 3 in a row continues to test Fox as our head coach.

Injuries have no doubt played their part in our poor performances and our participation in the CHL. Although we were outstanding in that competition I thought.

BUT.......the team ethic of last season appears to have disappeared especially considering that most of the core group have returned.

I don't think bringing in a cold and rusty goalie was the right decision in the short-term but could work out longer term if Greenfield and De-Filippo are going to be out for a long period of time? We would have been no worse off playing our Brit backups over the last 3 games IMO.

Our PP is no where near good enough and that's nothing to do with the CHL!

Nothing i have not seen before over many years of watching, some seasons everything just falls into place at the right time and success follows and others times they dont and there is not always an answere why this or that happens,,,,,except thats the nature of the game. Thats then why we have these forums and give our varying opinions on the causes.. All part of the game , enjoy the good times and go with the frustrating bad times. who would want to be coach !,,,,,,,
