I agree with the comments above about the poor state of things in the Star. I see their ex-editor commenting on Sky News occasionally. She was obviously too good for the dead end situation in Sheffield. I also agree with Doom about Westerdale.
I am old enough to remember listening to John Arlott whose words about cricket were pure gold. At least I have Atherton writing well in the Times. No one could ever surpass Arlott. I remember driving back from Leeds late one afternoon. We were batting in a test. After a moments silence he came out with the brilliant remark that “if it stays this way for this final over it will be Knott and Knight not out overnight.” I nearly drove off the road laughing. (You really have to hear that voice for the full effect) I would love to have such a talent commentating for Steelers. Though to be be fair I think Steelers webcasts are pretty good.
Perhaps we will have to cancel the Star if it continues on its current road.

I get a feeling Steelers weren't happy with Bob & the Star after the tragic incident against the Panthers, I might be totally wrong but ever since a certain tweet back then that (for the correct reasons) came under heavy criticism, the Star & Bob haven't been included as much.

I suspect the reaction to what was posted has a lot to do with it, Bob had already "retired" as I understand it and was an independent contributor rather than an employee as such. I would not be surprised if that made him think he doesn't need that kind of trouble in his life anymore and has decided to step away.BontSteeler wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2024 10:57 pmI get a feeling Steelers weren't happy with Bob & the Star after the tragic incident against the Panthers, I might be totally wrong but ever since a certain tweet back then that (for the correct reasons) came under heavy criticism, the Star & Bob haven't been included as much.

Another day of silence from The Star, you would have thought that a media organisation would understand that a vacuum gets filled with speculation and that when people change their habits to start getting their news fix elsewhere they often don't come back. All it takes is a simple statement to keep people informed, not saying anything just makes it look like the last days of a closing down sale where the employees don't give a "insert word" any more and the owners just want to squeeze the last few pennies out of the business before they disappear.

Well here we are a week later having played two pre-season games and still not a peep out of the Star, what really demonstrates their indifference is that no explanation has been posted. If you cannot or will not cover the Steelers then at least have the guts to say something.
The Star really has become a poor apology of a newspaper since it changed it's format and became less Sheffield focussed earlier this year. I've also lost patience with its bad presentation, spelling, grammar etc etc. It infuriates me when parts of reports disappear. And then there's naff all coverage of the most successful team in Yorkshire.....needless to say I've told my paper shop to stop delivering it. Harrumph

Yesterday the Steelers tweeted a photo of a new article in the Star, but the story is not visible on their website and indeed the website in the photo looks different to their normal public facing site, as I live well outside the distribution area for the actual newspaper I have nothing to compare it to, I haven't seen a paper copy in about 20 years. The lack of advertising makes it look like a picture of a story rather than a full page article. Also noticeable is the lack of a name for the article author, the style doesn't feel like BW so maybe he has stepped away, I played the game of reading it and seeing whose voice fell into my head and I have to say it feels very much like it was written by the current Steelers lead video commentator. *note to Steelers Office because I know you all read this forum:- If that happens to be correct it's just a guess, no need to start a leak investigation and sack some 50/50 seller or spotlight operator...

Still nothing on their web site but I notice they have reinstated the three article limit before demanding a subscription payment, they must be getting desperate for money. Nearly a £10 a month to be bombarded with advertising, non stories and clickbait headlines
