To go from one level to another that would be perceived as "twice as loud" is approx. 10db. To make comparisons easier if it were a 100w system ( I know it's not, this is just a figure for an example ) then to make the system appear "twice as loud" the system would need to be 1000w. Clearly they have not just installed extra amps/speakers so somehow the system has been turned up. As soon as it was identified there was a problem, which from comments was quite early on then why did it take so long to reduce the volume ?, was it because of a fault or because someone refused to make any changes. The Arena management should really make a public statement even if it's no more than saying we recognise there may be an issue and are looking into it. The levels should be managed by a sound engineer and kept to the standards dictated by the Arena without interference from ANY Steelers staff.

In an industrial environment an employer must provide ear protection for workplace noise above 85 dB (A).
The noise in the arena last game was way above that, it was at uncomfortable levels.
It was unacceptable and unnecessary.
It's a hockey game not a Metallica gig.

Its not acceptable in a Metallica gig either, dangerously high sound levels can seriously damage a persons hearing, even when short term... the arena knew this was an issue, hence the handing out of free ear plugs...ekt wrote: ↑Wed Dec 31, 2025 8:56 pmIn an industrial environment an employer must provide ear protection for workplace noise above 85 dB (A).

Handing out earplugs is just a way of trying to avoid responsibility. It’s absurd. Just tackle the real problem and limit sound levels. If Simms can’t do his job a little less noisily then change to someone who can. This is a really serious issue. Every week we see parents encouraged to lift up small babies. This is a genuinely dangerous environment for them.

Whilst posting here is very useful, I think it needs to be brought up with the arena directly and then the Steelers if no reply is given from the Arena.
I'd email them myself, but don't go to the games so can't really complain when I don't attend.
Has anyone already lodged a concern or complaint?
Feel free to post any feedback though on here, as I'm genuinely interested if any response(s) are received.

This is important, complaints posted on here have no effect except to see how many other forum users agree with you. A formal complaint to the Arena is the only way as the Steelers claim they didn't even know the forum was still running so no one from that Org ever reads this. But seriously.. it's the Arena that is legally responsible for enforcing sound levels.smbmetal wrote: ↑Fri Jan 02, 2026 11:17 amSheffield Arena's 'contact us' page:

I have had a very prompt reply from the arena which I will paste below.
Make of it what you will!
Good Afternoon,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us, and please accept our sincere apologies for the discomfort you experienced during the Steelers game on Tuesday 30th December.
We are very sorry to hear that the sound levels caused you physical pain, and we fully appreciate your concerns, particularly in relation to hearing safety for all guests, including children and older visitors. This is not the experience we want anyone to have at our venue.
Your feedback has been escalated to the relevant department for review, including our operations and production teams.
Sound levels are monitored for health and safety compliance, and your comments will be used to ensure this is reviewed in detail so that similar issues do not occur going forward.
We also acknowledge your comments regarding the lack of a visible steward in your area at the time. This will be fed back to the management team to ensure staff visibility and support is consistent across all seating blocks.
Thank you for raising this with us and for your long-standing support of the Steelers and the arena.
We genuinely value feedback such as yours, as it helps us improve the experience for everyone.
Warmest Regards,
Michelle
