Heavies are ok but are invariably slower , in open play against speedy forwards that can cost you. I like the tall players as they have a long reach . I'm happy with what we have .

With Ellerby, ASD and Sam Jones I think we have our snarliest, more aggressive d corps for a long time.
And Davey Phillips isn't frightened of mixing it up either.

I'm usually the first to moan about our lack of physicality, but I'd agree this does seem our most snarliest defence for quite a while.

Looking forward to seeing how we match up to the other teams.
You can throw Brust into the mix too when it comes to fiesty play and someone who is not going to take any crap, I don't see it being an issue..

One of the best rosters I've seen put together in a few years, I thought Fox's 1st year was impressive but this year he's gone 1 step further imo.

Very much looking forward to the new guys coming in & playing with those core players who know what it takes to play in the EIHL.

Great summers recruitment by Fox & Steelers.

As you’ve seen, Steelers have added 5”10” Canadian defenceman Daine Todd.

https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/14502/daine-todd

The 34 year old hasn’t had the traditional career, he bagged an AHL spot as an undrafted free-agent after leaving the Canadian University USports League’s University of New Brunswick Reds.

In the AHL he iced 56 times for the Texas Stars and Portland Pirates.

He’s iced in the top European leagues.

In the KHL for Finnish side Jokerit Helsinki.

In the Swedish SHL with Luleå HF & Örebro HK.

In the German DEL with the Iserlohn Roosters.

It’s certainly a bigger team than Fox usually recruits. We have some bigger bodies, especially in D who will be able to get stops & manoeuvre opposition forwards off the puck.

Offence has never been an issue under Fox, we scored miles more goals than anyone else in 19/20 but, crucially, conceded 30 more than Cardiff.

I’m delighted with the squad that Aaron Fox has built for the new season. Looks like we have good experience and have added more height on the d which was vital.

Players like Ellerby should be invaluable to Sam Jones’ progression and Brust can be no bad thing for Churchfield and Warburton.

Got doubts about a couple of the forwards but goals have never been a problem so far under Fox.

Giants fan coming in peace (I swear!) with a genuine question about your roster: What do you guys make of the age profile of your team? Absolutely no doubt they are quality players, I will happily admit that. But an average age of over 31 to me raises a couple of questions.

So I’ve done my attempt at goals for the season across the whole team (just a bit of fun with Doom).I’d like to add these numbers are rather conservative, I tend to always edge towards the side of caution.
I have us down for 208 goals for the season by comparison just looking on my note pad I had us down for 225 in the 19/20 season and 180 in Thommos last debacle 18/19. On a plus side I do like the look of our more robust defence this year, even if it looks on paper lacking in offence.

These days I leave it to my mate to come up with the numbers.

He uses league multipliers like I used to do and generally isn't too far off overall, although there are usually a few howlers.

He did bring out all sorts of stats on Saturday night, but after a long day in the pub i can't remember them. :Smiled:

I think he had Sheffield and Belfast at the top of the scoring, but that made certain assumptions about the likely final signings for all teams.

I think overall he had a similar number to you HoS, which was a slight/reasonable reduction on his prediction for the 19/20 season.

I'll message him to find out his numbers.

Regards

Doom
