Cole Shudra has signed for Belfast according to Simms’ WhatsApp group.

I certainly wouldn't have called Shudra to Belfast.
I thought probably Coventry or Cardiff, with Nottingham being an outside shout.
I guess he gives Belfast flexibility, with that ability to play as a forward or on defence.
What odds he scores against us next season?
Regards

Im not surprised that hes gone, and when think about it less surprised than others that it's to the Giants
Cole fulfils a hard checking, physical, hard working fourth line role. Expectations of him racking up pts are ridiculous.
Sadly our fans and I'd also say our coach don't see the value of this. Keefe on the other hand encourages his teams to play hard, physical on the forecheck.

Which is why they’ve won 4 out of the last 5 EIHL championships.paul johnston wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2026 5:36 pmIm not surprised that hes gone, and when think about it less surprised than others that it's to the Giants

I hope Shudra flourishes under Keefe. I think he’s gone backwards under Fox’s tenure.

I think whilst Fox is in charge, Keefe is more likely to win an EIHL championship than we are. They even managed it last season whilst competing and getting battered in the CHL, which according to some of our fans, an EIHL championship can’t be won if you compete in the CHL.
We’re just not hungry enough under Fox is my view. Being passive doesn’t win many championships IMO.

Belfast needed another Brit, and Shudra certainly has the experience and can be a role player in the right system.
I'm not sure it's a case of not seeing the value in him, but we are also in a position of needing a better scoring Brit (Whistle), and ultimately will have to replace our premier scoring Brit in the next couple of years, and need to get the replacement reps at this level (IBN replacing Dowd eventually). Similar to the Steele/Kelly situation, we can't afford to lose out on potentially the next premium British players.

I dont disagree at all with our Brit line up for next year. Its probably as good as we could have (unless we signed Waller and Kirk!) and I see big things ahead for IBN and Steele. Lets hope they get the minutes and chances they need.
Fair point but I would still expect him to get more than 1 point in the whole of a season.paul johnston wrote: ↑Thu May 28, 2026 5:36 pmIm not surprised that hes gone, and when think about it less surprised than others that it's to the Giants
