Welcome to Sheffield Olivier.

As a signing on its own, I’m not particularly excited, he’s not going to be in his prime at 33. Similarly, if any of our nearest rivals had announced him, I wouldn’t be fussed either to be honest.

However, he’s no doubt part of Fox’s bigger picture for a how he will fit with the other individuals/potential signings that he will have already identified, of which, some will come off and some won’t. A glowing reference from Cormier also helps with some positivity.

Like with any signing though, Olivier is very much a wait and see for me.

Assuming he re-signs, I wondered if this is a potential Balmas set-up partner? Just going on the assist tally.

+/- looks good in his recent Slovakian leagues where he’s had longer stints. Not sure how recent the footage on the reel is, but mobility looks excellent to me.

We don't get Archambault in his prime though.

I'm not sure what some expect these days on signings? Numerous examples in this league that age is much less of a factor, and we simply don't pay enough to get a 25 year old who's putting up numbers in either a better European league or AHL. Even top ECHL guys if they're 24/25/26 are more likely to head to a higher paying European league first.

So if coming from NA it's likely either younger ECHL/AHL guy who's numbers aren't necessarily amazing, or older guys who might be on the back 9 as such, but coming from higher pedigree. Or go college route but not all transition well to pro hockey, especially the guys willing to come over

I am looking forward to see him play and expect him to do alright. I think Fox signs some decent players but my concern is more about his ability to motivate the guys into playing consistently as a team. As has been suggested he could prove to be a great wing man for Balmas perhaps. I am also encouraged that he has Cormier's approval.

...assuming Balmas re-signs. I'll be happier when that announcement comes through.

True. I think we'll do all we can to keep him and I am obviously optimistic but he could easily get an offer that is hard for him to turn down

Tremblay will be a big loss, the closest we had to an import Dowd with his effort, physicality and leaving it out there every shift. Hope we get a suitable/like replacement.

That's a shame regarding Tremblay, I wouldn't have been disappointed if he'd re-signed.

He didn't get many points, but always put in a good shift and was a solid and reliable 3rd/4th line player.

Good luck to him in the future.

Regards

Doom.
