GAME THREAD: Devils v Steelers: Pre-Season

To be honest I was not confident for the wins over the weekend. I thought it would be more about just getting up to speed and some real game experience together, as well as some line shuffling. It's looking like there's plenty of potential in the team and a good balance
I see a few on the Devils forum are pointing to the number of imports we had playing.
According to the gamesheet we had 15 out skating imports to their 14, which is hardly a significant difference.
I think some are counting Greenfield, but he sat on the bench all game.
No doubt Cardiff were the better team in both games, but I guess a few of them need to look for an excuse as to why they lost to a team with far less preparation under their belts.
It's always dangerous to read too much into pre season, but for me that was quite encouraging. We should have a much higher ceiling for improvement than Cardiff, considering where both teams are in their pre season.....but we shall see.
One other thing I did notice was that the Pu line didn't have one shot on goal in the game and Pu didn't manage one shot on goal during the whole weekend. It's far too early for it to be a concern yet, but hopefully he starts to find his feet soon, because he will be crucial to what we do.

They definitely missed a SOG for Pu in the stat count - he almost scored back door on the first game just before the Southorn goal (which he also had the primary assist on). I could have sworn he had a couple of others too across the weekend.
Nothing at all to worry about for me

I remember when Thompson first came to the Steelers, we played some fabulous hockey in the pre-season & first coupla months, then we got found out & it then became a total bore fest at times.Doom wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 5:40 amI see a few on the Devils forum are pointing to the number of imports we had playing.

I can see the same happening in Cardiff to be honest.
If I were a Cardiff fan, I'd be disappointed with losing both games to be honest.
Even if we had more import(s), they are much further down the pre-season schedule than us, so really should be fitter and faster.
If it was the other way round, I'd certainly be disappointed losing both games to a team that haven't/hadn't played a game in pre-season yet.
