I was close to the Saucerman incident in 104. The Refs clearly blew the whistle with Saucerman on the floor and entangled with 2 Devils . Both Refs were pulling the players apart and were not looking at the play. I never saw the goal either as instinctively , having heard the whistle , I was watching how the “ fight “ would develop. The Cardiff players who ,“scored “ , came back to the bench and were not even celebrating.
As it was a goal it was reviewable so why not look and listen to the video. ?
I will be interested in listening to the replay to see , ( hear ) if I am right.
Obviously they weren't sure as it took so long to discuss. I hope we don't lose this tie by one goal !

If the whistle was blown then it's a shocking call, because quite rightly the players will have stopped playing.
The bottom line is we're two goals up with 60 minutes still to play. Bad decisions get made, we don't want to dwell on it, we need to focus on the game in Cardiff and be ready for them coming at us hard.
Good to see us solid on faceoffs, including Watling who has had a good couple of weeks.
Storm up next.

The ref and lino saw the saucerman tangle and blew the whistle (one of them) the moment Busch fell on him and pinned him down, the players stopped playing, even the devils players.. I think Greenfield was in process of straightening up from his stance.. cleary thinking the play was dead, showed no concern when the puck went in the net and the devils player never even celebrated...Doom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:17 amIf the whistle was blown then it's a shocking call, because quite rightly the players will have stopped playing.

Busch hammed it up and did a slapstick pantomime fall when Colton grabbed his stick to remove it that was already under his body..

Just to clarify, not saying right or wrong, the review was done remotely NOT by the referees, I presume remotely means at EIHL headquaters.Brian wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:10 amI was close to the Saucerman incident in 104. I wonder if the video refs were ever given a view that simultaneously showed the goal and the referee intervention on the incident. Very silly of the league to experiment with this type of review in such a critical game. For everyone’s sake let’s hope Devils don’t win the tie by 1 goal; next week.rnewbolt1 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 10:22 amJust to clarify, not saying right or wrong, the review was done remotely NOT by the referees, I presume remotely means at EIHL headquaters.Brian wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:10 amI was close to the Saucerman incident in 104. Video clearly shows the back referee raising a hand and blowing the whistle, the next question would be if the "goal" was scored before or after the whistle was blown, that would probably need a split screen with timing info. The whistle stops play regardless of whether it is an error by the official or not, Cardiff would be rightly aggrieved if their goal was washed out but the puck is dead as soon as the whistle is blown.
As far as I understand it a goal is a reviewable action but I don't know if they had the split screen available to them, if not then it's down to the call on the ice by the officials. Watching it back it does feel like the whistle went before the goal, in which case this is an error by the officials. I don't believe there is any precedent for amending the score so that is a non starter, the good news is that the Steelers were clearly the better team and a repeat of that performance would see us through to the final.

I’ve only been able to watch the highlights, but I don’t hear a whistle, only a hand raised by the ref?
I wasn’t there of course but if the whistle did indeed blow, then the goal should not stand in my opinion.
Noticed Cardiff rotated their goalie. Won’t be long before we burn Greenfield out if he continues to play game after game. No matter how good he is, he’s not a machine. Even they need maintenance!
We will certainly need to up our game in Cardiff in the 2nd leg as we’ve been very poor in Cardiff so far this season.
Pleased with a 2 goal lead though, which sounds like it should have been 3!
