Was a pretty routine victory. Coventry offered little to nothing which surprised me, usually face much sterner tests there on the smaller ice.
They did rally and hit the two in quick succession but we smothered the momentum well.

Start of the game and end of the game was poor by the Steelers, but a very good middle 40. Ciampini for all his experience, and now having an A on his shirt, should know not to take a petulant, cheap slashing penalty.
If Coventry had taken their early chances it could have been a different game.
Once again I was disappointed to see no retribution given when one of our most skilled payers (Ciampini) was flattened. Perhaps that's one of the reason's he took a poor penalty.
Does appear that most of our physical play shown in the pre-season games has been coached out of the team already. I really do think that gives us the competitive edge when used effectively as we have a few players than can easily embrace that side of the game.

What do you mean physical play has been coached out of the team? Do you think Aaron Fox really said go out there and play soft. Don't finish your hits. ?smbmetal wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 11:42 amIf Coventry had taken their early chances it could have been a different game.

Yes in a way. I think he tells the players to dial it back so not to risk penalty trouble.kgw wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2023 7:30 pmWhat do you mean physical play has been coached out of the team? I think there’s a marked difference between the pre season games compared to this game for example in our physical play. It’s almost non-existent. I believe that is down to the coaching.
For me, one of the reasons we’ve not won a league championship for years, is under Fox especially, we are too passive a team with no real bite or nasty streak.
Having watched many Belfast games who are easily the current benchmark in the UK, they play with that physical edge and have that nasty streak in them. We used to play like that and yes, the game has changed but I believe it still wins trophies evidenced by Belfast’s recent grand slam.
I believe we have the right mixture of skill and speed, but for me that won’t be enough to win a league championship alone.
I maintain that we will not win a league championship with Fox at the helm.

Watched the highlights last night, is it me or was the ice in a terrible state or was it just the camera angle? It looked awful.....
Agree with the poster above re Ciampini, where on earth were our guys standing up for a team mate? One of these days one of our skilled players will be out long term with hits like that - my mind goes back to a hit on Watling at the Arena, that was an horrendous hit, yet nothing gets done.....its infuriating, I know I have to accept that the fighting days are gone but what I can't get down with is, when our top end gurs week in, week out get hammered & we do sweet FA about it.
